My wife and I run team and recently purchased a plush pillowtop mattress for our Volvo 780's bunk.. that 3" foam mattress was KILLING our backs. After putting the new mattress in we found that the safety net would not reach the buckles. I anticipated the stretch being tight but it's off by about a half an inch or so. My wife's dad is a big guy and uses an extender in his Ford Pickup and suggested we look into some. We borrowed his to experiment but found the male end of our net was too large for the female end of the Ford version (the net buckle size is 1 5/8" while fords female end is 1 1/8"). Well, after calling the Volvo in Oklahoma City where we'd be passing through we were told they were illegal to use per the DOT and they didn't sell them.
I checked in the green book and couldn't find anything about it, nor anything about it on any website.. all I found was that all occupants must be restrained.. nothing about extenders on the belts being illegal.
Does anyone have any insight into this? Maybe I just missed it in there or maybe this guy was wrong... but, if their permitted, any suggestions on where I might pick a set up for our volvo? I searched google and couldn't find any for heavy trucks but I found one site (amongst many) that advertises a "universal fit" extender and am waiting for a response on the size of the female end.
Thanks
