    Default The streak is over

Well, after driving OTR for 10 and a half years, I have to make my first trip into California.

I deliver in Fontana on Sunday morning. Hoping they find me a preplan to get me right back out. Planning on staying at the AZ/CA border tomorrow night, then make a mad dash in-out of there on Sunday.

    I'd rather go to Toronto.

it will be wide open heading that way on New Years Day. You should just take it all the way in. There will be plenty of parking anywhere(TA, Pilot or the J)

Sitting at the Flying J at exit 1 in AZ on I-10 now. Up until today, the furthest west I've been on I-10 was exit 103. OMG - that's the most boring stretch of highway I've ever been on (between the 103 & exit 17). Wow. I didn't know there were roads that long that didn't require so much as a slight turn of the steering wheel. I just hope they send me a different way when I head east again.

What helps on those long stretches, is if you can build up some steam.
I recommend about 80-85mph, and turn up the music.

CA is bad enough as it is for oversized anything.
But once they either send you West of the 605 in So Cal, or West of the Altamont Pass in No Cal, it's a headache you'd want to get over with ASAP.

I may or may not have to take this trailer down to Long Beach on Monday, I might get lucky, drop/T-Call in Fontana, then get something going back up to the Rockies.

Finished that load up. Picking up in City of Industry with a load going to Calgary, AB. Nice miles, but not looking forward to the drive up through there.

Never performed a border crossing, let alone traveled out of the country before so that's a totally different animal for me.

Just cross the Cajon Pass on I-15. It took roughly 2.5hrs to get across it. The southbound side is backed up 30+ miles on it. Lovely time of year to be here.

Where exactly is the Grapevine pass anyway? I've always heard of it, but don't have a clue where it's at.

Wave as you pass by Dillon MT. That there is home. The folks are buried at the cemetery in Twin bridges MT. The truck route to Calgary used to take you right through downtown Twin...back in the yonker years!

Stop and snag a pic of "Beaver-head Rock". The "Pipe Organ" too!! If you layover at the J in Rocker MT....catch a cab into downtown Butte and have a beer at the M&M Club.
