True Story, (I know, that usually means it's not, but it is).

I went to Batesville Arkansas in August for a Dirt Track race. We went to check in at the Motel, (Ramada Inn), and we were met by the female desk clerk's. You know the kind with the lip rings, eyebrow rings, cheek ring wearing neck tatoo kind of person that normally works at the front desk of an establishment. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, just kind of the set up).

So we get checked in and I asked her, "Is the track right off of Rte 25?". She then replies, I don't know what that means. So I ask again, "The Racetrack? Is it off of ROUTE 25? She say's, "I still don't know what that means".

So then I say to her, "Is the racetrack off of the road, hwy, rte #25?" She then started laughing and said, "I have a GPS, I don't know about any of that stuff means!"

I've NEVER had a problem believing YOUR stories.

I went to Batesville Arkansas in August for a Dirt Track race. We went to check in at the Motel, (Ramada Inn), and we were met by the female desk clerk.
BATESVILLE???? Wasn't that the town in Psycho???

You know the kind with the lip rings, eyebrow rings, cheek ring wearing neck tatoo kind of person that normally works at the front desk of an establishment. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, just kind of the set up).
I spent much of my youth as a night auditor / desk clerk for a major (smaller) hotel chain. I have no tattoos nor piercings.

I REST MY CASE in all other threads about GPS and the "dumbing down of trucking!"

But, your story shows that it is not JUST trucking and truckers who have lost the ability to think for themselves.

    I was dumbfounded.

You ought to see my old dusty "truckers" atlas. I think it's from the late 90's. I have duct tape for my front cover and the spine is all tore up but it still works, (the map) I pulled it out last week, (the map), and my wife about laughed me out of the house

My oldest Trucker's Atlas is from 2004 (large letter edition.) I started driving in 2005, and picked it up from a trucker for 10 bucks. I still use it (at home.) Just recently bought an '09 LAMINATED edition for about the same.... but, I need my glasses to read it!

My "classic" edition, is a 1984 regular road atlas. I guess I bought this about the time I got married after I got out of the service. I was doing alot of travelling with my young family. It HAS no "cover!" I only know the year, because I THINK I can still translate roman numerals!

I would LOVE to be able to quote here the "instructions" to 4-wheelers on how to MERGE onto these new INTERSTATE highway "thingies!"

Oops.... I made a funny and didn't even know it. I wasn't "joking" about how old it was with the roman numerals thing. It's just that... you know.... atlases show the YEAR on the front cover. Mine is missing the cover. INSIDE.... all there is is the copyright box which, as with other things, still uses roman numerals. An "L" is a 50 isn't it? MCMLXXXIV = 1984.... right?

Can you imagine what an atlas would have looked like during the Roman Empire?? LOLOLOL!

I'm hoping to make it down to the RT.95 South Carolina area and sleep late sunday afternoon/early evening. I have to be in Jacksonville for 7am Monday, and in Lakeland Fl. for 7pm. Monday.

I'll be sleeping somewhere on 95 in North Carolina late tomorrow morning. Heading to Jacksonville and Daytona for Monday morning. Then reloading out of Charlotte Tuesday.

I wish that more people would use the thread. We could be in the same truck stop eating dinner and not even know it. I would update more often, but i have a hard time getting a signal when i'm on the road.
