Speeding in Wyoming costly for truckers If you haven’t trucked in Wyoming in a while, here’s a heads up.
State law now says the drivers of heavy trucks caught exceeding the speed limit by more than 5 mph will be hit with a $300 surcharge on their speeding tickets.
State law raised the amount from $100 to $300 in July 2009, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation.
WYDOT says the higher fine applies only to large commercial trucks and not delivery vans, recreational vehicles or pickups pulling trailers.

$300 surcharge... Glad I don't go out there. Of course, in an underpowered goverened truck like I'm driving, I'd have trouble getting a speeding ticket in a school zone.

Those who speed in Wyoming deserve to get their license revoked.

Why in the hell would you want to drive a 80,000lb bomb over 80mph?

There is a season speed limit of 65 mph for about 50 miles in the Elk Mountain area and justifiably so, since that's where the wind and weather cause road conditions to be the worst. Maybe a slap in the wallet might give the pedal to metal drivers something to think about.

Going down some of those hills, you can get a loaded wheelbarrow over 90. It doesn't take much horsepower, and even a governed truck can roll down those hills. Years ago, I know a driver that had a truck (company) governed at 60, but hit over 120 mph going down one hill. The only place being governed really affects you is going up the hills.

I agree hit the cowboys in the wallet. No need for that kind of speed in the winter out in that state. I have been passed out there more than once by some cowboy. Who later put it in the ditch because of excessive speed in the winter.

Especially, pulling a loaded set in a single-axle truck.
Our trucks couldn't pull a wire off a fence post, but they can bury the speedometer going down hill.

Now....mind you...I NEVER DID THIS......but once upon a time...when a driver thought it was time a truck needed a new engine....letting it go down one of the "Sister's" was common......re-engage the clutch about 2/3 way down...and bang...call a tow truck!! Gravity is awesome!!
