    The victim was from Texas.
WESTON -- A truck driver from Texas was killed after being hit by a pick-up truck, Monday evening, in Lewis County. Jerry Butler of Garland, Tex. was trying to cross the road on Hackers Creek Road, when he was hit by a GMC truck driven by Joshua Lane, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Department.
Butler died from the injuries he sustained from being hit, deputies said.
It happened around 5:55 p.m. between the Jane Lew Restaurant and the Jane Lew Truck Stop, according to deputies.
Butler was a truck driver for Schneider National.
The Lewis County Sheriff's Department is investigating.

I seem to remember stopping in there to fuel about 15 years ago. Been by there many times, but that was the last time I stopped in.

There's another dangerous place in Wrentham, MA. North of the circle, on US-1, the parking lot is on the east side of the road, and the truck stop on the west side. Enough drivers were getting hit there that they now have a traffic light for drivers to cross at.

My heart goes out to the family.

How good is the food? It's to ___ ___! (rimshot)

Was he on his way over or back? Nice reporting. I've stopped there a couple of times but never tried the restaurant. The selection in the C-store leaves a lot to be desired and I figured that didn't speak well for the restaurant. This was going to be a restaurant review, right?

Seriously, though . . what will you bet the family will (among other things) make a workman's comp claim? And what will you bet that Schneider tells them to go poop in their pompadours?

    There's another story out there . .

    The Police News

. . about a driver getting smooshed at the AB plant in Houston. It sounds like he was cherry picking for an empty when another Driver -in a red Freightliner- backed an empty into him, smooshing him before quickly fleeing the scene. I have to believe that AB would have sufficient video to aid with tracking this guy down.

    There's another story out there . .

    http://www.landlinemag.com/todays_ne.../011810-05.htm

. . about a widow going after Flying Pilot for the unsolved hit and run death of her husband who was run over (apparently) in their parking lot.

This is a dangerous job, folks; anyway you look at it.

I have not seen an AB facility yet that did not include good security. Either they are not cooperating, or it happened in a blind spot.

As to the other one, it's not Flying J, but PILOT. And PILOT's response is about typical of what I would expect. They own the truck stop, they own the parking lot. But they are not responsible for what happens there.
“The death of George Taylor and alleged damages of plaintiff were legally, directly and proximately caused solely by the actions of the unknown person or persons who struck George Taylor,” Pilot’s response says.
Want to see any other business in the country get away with that? Look at all the "slip and fall" lawsuits at McDonald's and Berger King. Then, look at the out-of-court settlements.
