    Default Electronic Logs

My company announced that it was putting all new Qualcoms into the trucks by next spring. Along with many features like free email, mapquest, hands free directions etc.. it will have an electronic logbook and we will stop using paper logs.

Anyone have experience with these? I know that Werner has been using them for quite some time. How do you print a copy to bring it into the scale-house? What do you do when the DOT says "let me see your log"? Hand the whole contraption out the window? What about the end of the year for taxes. Can you get a hardcopy from the company?

Can't take them in they have to come out and look. We hit a log button and it pops up on screen. Shows hours work, hours left, hours for the week, etc. It's nice because you can't cheat on your log. Company can't force you to go over over hours, so that's nice.

There's so many times when I did wish we had electronic logs in our trucks, just to keep the idiots that we call dispatchers from telling you that your next load is 850 miles total and must be delivered at 7am, 18 hours from when they send the load info. And, yes, I'm a solo driver in a castrated, weak truck.

Panther uses electronic logs. On both old and new versions of the q/c.

The only time we have been asked for our logs, my wife said -- we use electronic logs. The folks very politely said - have a nice day.

What we were told to say, is we have electronic logs would you like us to fax the last 8 days to you.

If it is the same version, it is rather user friendly - especially in comparison to werner's. Unlike werner's you do not have to enter a macro driving - as soon as you move .7 of a mile it kicks into line 3. It also has a touch screen where you can pretend you are using a windows app - almost.

There are also 2 games - solitaire and freecell.

Expediting is different, but the same, but it's different. I'm so confused.

Nope - a smallish company out of West Virginia.

Gotta say though - nothing pisses off dispatch worse than when you drive 100% legal, which I did with that load. Maybe they'll think twice about doing it again (for awhile, at least).

We use 'electronic logs'. They are actually hand-held computers. It shows how many hours (both driving and on-duty-not-driving) we have left for the day. All I have to do is punch in my trailer numbers, and my driver number when I log on every evening. I can also see how many miles I've ran, road hours and stuff. It's nice..

We also have 'paper logs'. Why, I don't have the foggiest. They keep telling us that they are doing away with 'paper logs', soon.
