Hi everyone. My name is Lea and I am 51 yrs. old. I've got 4 kids. They're all grown up now and on their own or in university. I've been driving OTR...solo for 5 years now. I love it. I get to meet interesting people and see some great places as well. I was born and raised in Canada, but moved to the state of Wisconsin just over 2 years ago. Have a fantastic husband Dave who supports me with my job. We have 2 purebred siberian huskies. The female is red & white with blue eyes and the male is a gray & white with blue eyes.
I hope all of you have a great Christmas and New Years. Be safe driving out there. Take care.

    Default My Introduction

    Hello Everyone!
My name is Jeff and I just finished my schooling and am looking at my smiling face on my new CDL. I have orientation on Thursday, Jan 4th and should be headed out with a trainer for 4-6 weeks sometime in the next week. I was a bundle of nerves this morning when I saw my name on the test board but I just took it slow and easy and got through it. At the moment I am looking forward to getting out on the road and getting started with my new career!

See y'all out on the road!!!

hi my name is nadine and i am new to the forum. question. i've been trying to past the cdl knowledge test for my lerner for maryland and have failed it five times. i agree with the person from ky saying that what you study is not whats on the test or the test answer are incorrect. and not what you studyed.

    Gudday to all.

My name is Calum and I live in Dunedin New Zealand.( New Zealand is in the southern pacific ocean beside Australia. We are members of the British empire but probably have more in common with you yanks than the poms)

I am 38 years old and have been driving trucks since I was 21 years old. I have done general freight line haul towing 5 axle btrains and 43 foot semi trailers, bulk work (wood chips and superphosphate) with a tipper (8wheeler truck towing a four axle trailer)This was a great job but I got sick and had to quit as I couldnt and cant do the hours any more!A bit of tanker work (mainly milk and milk by products) in 4 and 5 axle btrains as well as ISO tanks on container trailers.

I ran a small container cartage company for 5 years but in the end gave it up as a bad joke ,getting sick of the constant arguing with everybody and the rediculous hours and demands of containers. During this time I was still hands on ,often driving after the office work was finished or when a driver was off sick. During this time I did a fair bit of work on sideloaders dropping containers around the place and picking them up as required. I am now doing logs using an 8 wheeler truck (2 steer axles 2 drive axles) and a four axle drawbar trailer at weights of up to 45 1/2 tonne. This is the best truck driving job I have had tho I am currently off on Accident compensation with a broken leg cant wait to get back!!

I am married with a four year old daughter, own and a keen motorcyclist(Harley F#$@%^ Davidson YEAH) and keep myself occupied when Im not at work playing on the internet and generally doing renovations around the home and bugger all else really!! My major interest is in Australian V8 Supercar racing (Ford rules) and I will be taking a closer interest in the Busch series due to my favourite driver from Tasmania taking part this year(Marcos Ambrose the boy is good watch this space)

Hi to all, and I look forward to hearing from all and sundry and would especially like to hear of the logging industry from all over as I would love to compare notes and see what the latest and greatest is??

    Cheers

    Calum
Just because yer paranoid doesnt mean their not out ta get ya!!

    hey, i'm patrick
i'm 33 years old from NW corner of Florida. i searched out this forum trying to find opinions from REAL truckers (not recruiter and company hype) on Co. sponsored driving schools.
the one i am currently talking with is "driver solutions" they want me to drive for PAM transport.

i am tired of making barely enough money to get by and have always wanted to see something other than the extreme southeastern states to which i've been.
i hear folks saying that "you won't make much your first year, only 35-40K". try raising a family on 20K which is where i am now.
any heads up on these Co's would be greatly appreciated

I started driving trks about 1952(str jobs) in the hay fields of up state ny, All farm kids drove everything on the road back then, if we saw a cop once a yr it was a big day.
I drove 5 tons in Germany with the Army and when i came home I started doing farm pick up(milk) with a B-Model Mack single axle, after 6 yrs of fighting that, i drove an R-Model Mack for a few yrs.
then i got more money than i did brains and bought a single axle 67 Brockway with a 250 Cummins, and 10 spd RR, I took out the Eaton rear, stretched the frame and put twin screw mack rears out of a wreck in it. What a piece of work, 55 miles an hr right to the floor, it would take all day to climb Black mountain grossing 65 thou.
I trip leased for about eight yrs with a flat bed. Once in West Memphis i said to a guy from Ill. that i should sell my trl and bob tail home, well guess what, he bought the trl, side kit and all, I bob tailed home and stopped at the IH dealer near home and traded the 67 in on a 77 cab over IH with a 318 Detroit, hendrickson sus. worst trk i ever owned,
i spent everything i made keeping it on the rd then traded it on an 81 IH with a 350 Cummins, four spring sus. then put in a different button and made it equal to a 400 plus.. I hauled Boxes and Flats til 84 then leased to a guy that had the rights to haul tanks for ADM, i pulled flour tanks to NYC everyday for about 5 yrs and then decided that i and my family needed some medical benefits. I sold the trk, got a real job with lifetime med, and retired last yr.
Now as ride around in up state NY, I wonder where all the money is comming from, I was never once stopped in New York State with a trk, DOT was unheard of back them, now i see troopers with Blazers and Vans on every road even the back roads pulling trks over, it makes me glad that i'm not in the drivers seat anymore.
now i just pull a dump trl once in a while.

Hi, I'm Ivan, but prefer to be known as Stimp LOL

I'm 38 years old from a small town on the west coast of Scotland. i initially found your forum trying to find information regarding possible immigration to Canada under the provincial nominee program. Although I can't find much info on this on your site, I have enjoyed reading the threads here.

I think I'm almost at the point where I'm going to take the next step and actually do something about it. I have been thinking of it for over a year now and feel that if I don't do it now I never will. Rip-off Britain is getting to me and I long for the chance to explore the wide open spaces of Canada and the U.S behind the wheel of a big rig.

    Hello everyone,

I am Marty and I am changing careers and getting into trucking. I am 46 years old and I am from Mississippi. I have been accepted to go to training with either Swift or USA Truck. I have been doing allot of research in this forum and found it to be quite useful and amusing at times. They are waiting on me to let them know when I want to start my training but I expect to get started within the next two weeks or sometimes after the Superbowl. Figure if I go now I wont have much time for Football.

My name is Craig and I had the user name 77Highboy on here and have changed it to FourHeartsTrucking after my children. I am married to the love of my life Tara and we have four children Nick(the oldest 12 years old) and our triplets Matthew, Kathryn, and Patrick(11 years old). I have driven off and on since 1992 and I am about to retire from the Army this year and go back to driving. I plan on driving flat bed for Sherman Brothers out of Oregon and eventually become an O/O. My wife has a tattoo of four hearts that have our children's name on it, that is what we will call our business when the time comes. Take care!

well, I have been posting on here for a couple of days now. And I guess now is as good as any a time to introduce myself. I am havicks29, just a screen name, of course. Thomas is my real name. I live in Concord, NC. I have recently been looking into a driving school (company paid of course). I have 2 beautiful little girls, 6 and 3, they live in Texas with their mother. We divorced shortly after I got out of the Navy back in 2005. I am currently trying to get on with Schneider National here in Charlotte, NC. I just talked with them for the first time today. I will hopefully hear from my recruiter sometime this week, if not monday of next week. I am very excited about getting on the road. I love to travel. In the persuit of a career, I have travelled over 1300 miles in my personal car in the last 20 days. None have worked out. So now I am completely broke. But I am not giving up my dream of becoming a OTR driver. I have the support of my girlfriend and my family. So I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best!

    Default Charles & Karin

Hello everyone, just wanted to give you all a wave.
My name is Charles and my wife is Karin
I drive for Melton Truck Lines out of Tulsa, OK and have been with them for about 3 years now, other than a 4 month break when I gave Barr-Nunn a try doing the NE Region thing. I got to admire van and reefer haulers, those appts starting at 2 and 3am killed me real fast. Other than that, the work was easy, drop & hook, open doors and back up, gained 40lbs in 4 months..
I love doing the physical labor required in the flatbed field.
About my wife and I, we started chatting a few years ago, see, she is the creator of a MSN group for single truckers, http://groups.msn.com/singletruckers and then met in person just over a year ago, and in July last year we were married.
Together we also own another site for truckers, http://www.singletruckers.net, we recently revamped the site.
Well, that is a little about who we are, we wish everyone a great day, and a really great year.

Hi, I'm Amanda. I've been lurking the boards for a few weeks. Just starting classes to get my CDL. I'm in an awkward point, not yet 21, but so close. Already been through two different AAS degrees, and after being OTR with the ex for a few months, I know this is what I want.
