    Hi,

Only just found this intro thread...

My name is Rob, 26 yrs old and I'm from Kent in England. Sometime in the fall I will be moving to Washington state to be with my fiance.

I intend to get my CDL once all the moving is complete, probably end up paying for a course at a local school but I may end up going with a company that would train me up...not sure if CR England or Schneider etc would take an Englishman. :?

My eventual goal is to haul logs, that has been a dream of mine since childhood when I used to ride in my dad's dumptrucks and reefers in the UK.
I know trucking can be tough but there's just something about the sound and smell and the responsibility that makes me want to get into it.

    cheers

    Rob

Default Newbie both to board and to CDL

    Hello there!

I am in the begining process of getting my CDL A w/HazMat, just about ready to take the written. I will be going to Schneider sometime this summer. Was accepted last year, but just now getting my ducks in a row to take advantage of the offer. Have been working as an independant contractor for a courier company as a driver for the past five years. Have already found lots of help and useful information from both newbie and experienced drivers and helpful sites on the web.

My name is Samuel, from California, started driving when I was 16 for local bakeries. I eventually delivered the bundles of papers to the kids for their routes while going to Western Truck School.

After getting my CDL I worked locally pulling agricultural products all over California. After a little break I did LA freight from the central valley and back (Learned a lot in this period), unloaded a lot.... too much as well.

I eventually worked for an oversize OTR carrier and then transfered into the Hazardous Materials division while my wife was going to school for the company. After she got her CDL we pulled commercial explosives, misc. hazmat and flatbed oversized freight. After she had a year of over the road they began giving us Aerospace and F.A.K. GBL freight to the different military bases and aerospace contractors.

We eventually began running a dedicated run for the company pulling the S.S.M.E. from Canoga Park California to Bay St. Louis (John C Stennis SPace Center). After hitting what we considered about the best possible work you could do for this company we looked around and said "Nothing's changed". Pay is low, dispatchers still dont care, and still can't get by the house much (Didn't want to buy a house on 10 somewhere), so decided to find another company, in fact well before we got the dedicated run we were pretty convinced that this company wasn't going to be a company we would stay with indefinitely.

We eventually went to work for IDC (After interviewing 30 or more company teams), and decided to give IDC a try.

We immediately found that their team dispatcher (Some like him, some hate him) was a big pain in the kazoo. He said we took too much time off, so we started keeping a mileage log and showed that even with time off we still (Without any special dispatch requirement) worked our brains out.

My wife eventually had to quit due to health reasons I ended up crushing my foot at a consignee and worker's comp'd out of the job (No choice really).

So what now, we are interested in driving again hahah! suckers... lol

Thanks for the great resource here, I wish it had more readily information about who runs it etc.

My name is Tom and I live in Cedar Rapids, I am not currently a driver but have wanted to since I was a child. I currently work for a phone company that will either go under or do severe cutbacks any day now. I found this site about 6 months ago and read every posting I could to get as much information that I can and just recently got my own id and started posting. I have been pre-hired by several companies and all have the understanding that I am waiting to be let go from the company before I would be able to be hired. So now its just a waiting game.

    Default Hi All!

My name is Doug. I'm a young 45 and live in E. Tn. I've driven otr for most of the past 22 years. Now pulling a dry van and looking for a change. Found the site by surfing the web, which I do every now and then. I enjoy playing poker on-line when I'm not working . A HUGE drag racing fan, even tried it for awhile several years ago. So, maybe I'll read your post one day. Be good!

Hi everyone!! My name is Hilda ,
I'm not a professional truck driver yet,
but hope to be one soon. I'm a divorced
mother of a wonderful 20 year old daughter
and a 19 year old US Marine son.
I know trucking is not an easy job, specially
for people with young children at home,
in my case its different since I am on my own
and able to stay away from home as long as I need to.

Any advice on how to get started would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and be safe outhere!

    Default Hello all....

I am John. I am currently in the U.S. Navy serving on Andrews AFB in the so called great state of maryland, what a joke.

I have been on the boards for probably about a month now reading what all of the drivers have to say about just about anything and everything that has to do with driving a truck.

I am currently looking to start school with Roehl either in December this year or January '06, due to the time in Navy not ending until then.

I want to thank all the great people on here that has gave me some great advice on choosing a company to work for.

    See all of you later.

Hello all. I'm Scott from Jax, FL. I was in the repo biz, working for a nation wide company and figured if I was going to be gone and all over the place I might as well jump into driving a big truck. So here I am.
