I checked the hours on the distributor where this happened in Indy, 8am - 5pm. The theft was around midnight.
I used to haul stuff like this, and the last place you would want to camp out was an empty parking lot, be it the shipper or consignee unless there is security. These crooks knew what they were doing, having a truck there ready to go. Always try to find a truck stop to park at, preferably a busy one, and keep your yap shut about your cargo. Don't do like this guy and think you will be safe. He is lucky they did not kill him.
And after Googling the address and seeing it is right in the middle of the circle, which is the last place on the planet that I would have stayed, he is lucky to be alive. I would have headed down to Whiteman and spent the night at the FlyingJ.

That is unreal.
Those 2 guys were smart enough to drop the trailer, and then hook up to another truck? Wow.
Hopefully, they will find those 2.![]()
Sad for the driver.
I used to haul Jack Daniels whiskey back when I pulled a box around. I NEVER, EVER used to tell anyone what I had on the trailer. If someone asked I would tell them rolls of paper or not say anything. Any time you haul freight such as whiskey, beer, cigarettes, etc., you need to keep a low profile. This type of freight is high risk. When you haul this type of freight you need to be very watchful of your surroundings.

And, along with what GMAN listed, include computers, TVs, and motorcycles. I used to haul Harley Davidsons just above the Mexican boarder. I've seen locks cut, the bars that lock the trailer doors cut, and even a hole in the side of the trailer. They'll even cut down a tree behind the trailer to get inside in they want what you've got.

For all the beer we haul in curtain vans I'm surprised none has disappeared (yet)

i remember hauling cigs. out of phillip morris in concord,nc. the way they put those long cable seals on the back doors any trained eye would know what the load was. they had a couple of roadway loads hijacked, the company i worked for was to cheap to pay the lumper company they used in the warehouse to load the trucks, they made us do it by the hour.just don't stand on the boxes to get to the top levels in the trailer, they would freak out! my bad. but i don't miss those days.

take what you can, give nothing back!
I had a few loads like this of whyskey from KY to AZ. Up to a million bottles in it. Did not stop anyhwere except for fueling and little sleep. Made it home with it in about a day and a half of driving. With loads like this it is very wise to keep your mouth shut and keep watch around.
Don't you have to wonder... The truck was moved to a district police station... By whom? Another truck driver? A cop? Or a big wrecker??? No matter who or how it was moved there, someone had to know what they were doing. I have yet to see any police district that is set up to have a truck that size brought in. And, if moved by a wrecker, that adds even more length. The average cop is not going to get in there without hitting something. Wonder how many tree branches they had to cut off in order to get that trailer in there. Two people were arrested and the truck was being held at the South Chicago District police station.

someone beat me to it. I used to haul RJR out of winsten/salem and the seals on the back of the trailers were dead giveaways to what was in the trailer. When I started I drove almost as far as my endurance would take me b4 I stoped. When I did stop I stayed in the truck mostly and when I did talk to a driver I never talked about the load. If something about loads did come up I pulled a g-man and lied about it, lol. I wasn't about to lose 5 million+ dollors of cigs if I could help it.
