I just tried a quick search for something I read a few years ago. No luck. I'll look harder when I have a little more time.

Basically it described how our economy and the welfare class would have flourished if people seeking public assistance had been forced on to road crews or to take agricultural work. The premise is simple enough: work is better than welfare anyway you measure it. The conclusion was that the welfare class would cease to exist within one or two generations.

There have been many recent articles that talk about people returning to the land. I'll look up a few if there is any interest in this thread.

During the Great Depression of 1929 those who wanted to work built bridges and roads all over the country. Some of those bridges are still in use today. Back then people had more pride. Most would not accept a government handout without working for it.

Boy if that became law Chicago will cease to EXSIST because all of Obamas BROTHERS will BURN THAT CITY TO THE GROUND SCREAMING RACISM LEd by Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton if they were made to Work. Hell I see Welfare Reciptiants that are driving a freaking Naviagator on rims that have to cost at least 4-5 grand and yet nothing gets done about it.

My dad, and his 2 brothers worked in cotton fields, when they were growing up in Electra,(Tx) (about 25 miles west of Wichita Falls on 287)
Only a few farmers had cotton strippers, and most could not afford someone else to strip their cotton for them. My dad has scars on his hands from the petals on the cotton bolls. He's told me, I don't know how many times, but it seems like he said they made 25 cents a day.

Only those who are 100% white? Sounds pretty Arian to me, otherwise Obama will be out there in the fields too as he is at least 50% white.

    Try $4-5 grand each.

And those aren't welfare recipients, those are entrepreneurs. They make their fortune selling drugs to the white folk. Ain't America great?

Homework not quite finished . . this is the source document:

Workfare vs. Welfare: Incentive Arguments For Work Requirements In Poverty Allevation Programs

The article I paraphrased (and am still looking for) is a synopsis of this report and it's a lot easier to digest.

There are more whites on welfare than blacks. The ratio of blacks on welfare as a percentage of the black population is considerably higher than whites. So, as Scoe points out, it is an issue for ALL of Obama's kin. Chicago is an excellent example of a dying urban area with no jobs and astronomical numbers of perfectly healthy and employable people on welfare. It makes sense to relocate these people to rural areas where jobs and economic standing seem to be plentiful for illegal immigrants.

As to mischief makers Al and Jesse, I can't begin to enumerate the number of pages I've read that make it very clear . . unless the blacks are "oppressed", Al and Jesse have no platform nor power. They claim to speak in the interests of their constituents and they both have become quite wealthy. The constituents are still on the dole but Al and Jesse are doing OK. There are countless politicians from both sides of the aisle and at every level of government who play by the same rules. Give a man a check and you can bet he'll vote for you. Give a man a job and his priorities could change or he might not have time to vote for you.

And, in 1929, you did not have to have a school deploma in order to get a job on a road crew. Just put in your application. Today, you have to have a diploma from an equipment school to even apply. Now, get the welfare people back to work. Who's paying for their school? And, when you come up with the funding for that, I'll go too.

Could come work for us Wind, don't require a diploma but do require a valid DL and the ability to use your brain at times. We teach you how to run the equipment we have from curbmachine's to backhoe's to dozer's to trenchers and anything else we get to use.

Some places around here would rather see a school certificate that says you know how to run equipment, others just want you to show them first hand and could care less if you learned at a school or not.

It was unheard of back then for the government to pay for training. Companies did their own training. If you were willing to work then they would train you. They also got a good education with only 8 years of schooling. Some of today's college graduates would have difficulty passing the 8th grade final exam back then. People also had more common sense. At that time people were accustomed to taking care of themselves. Today they want to find a government program to do it for them. Most construction jobs didn't care if you had a diploma or not as long as you were willing to work and learn.

I seem to recall stories of companies that would actually put people through universities in exchange for working a set of hours a week at the sponsoring company while attending classes.

Nowadays, it's "come back when you have the degree, and maybe we'll give you a tuition reimbursement for your troubles."
It seems that "On-The-Job" is becoming less of a thing these days.

Another thing they should do as far as school is concerned is limit the general education to specific math and English/communication classes that will be used immediately in conjunction with the job.
Fine arts, foreign language and other humanities should be reserved for those foolish enough to be want to join some type of PR team later on in their life.

Used to have my own dozer when I was in WI. Got just as much use with it in winter to move snow around. Traded that in for a "YEAR-ROUND FISHING ROD". As soon as I get retired, I'll start wearing out that reel faster.

I'm a first generation of immigrants that came to the states when I was 17 8 years ago. My family started hard and I did any jobs that would make me money, including cleaning jobs, the ones that not a lot of people would do,mostly you know who.
But yeah, times are better now,but I've never been afraid of honest work, something my grandfather thought me when I was a little kid.

Remember the times when you could deliver papers on bicycle and mow lawns for movie-money??

Apparently everyone got too cheap, or too weak for that matter.
Newspapers decided that the papers got too heavy and that kids would croak under the weight, instead, they've gained the weight.
And small-time, lawn work has become somewhat of a mixed bag.
People don't usually hire the kid down the street due to fear of something being stolen, job not properly done, Mr Jones wants to proudly display his riding mower skills., etc

I think we gain much from those coming to this country legally. Immigrants built this nation. There are so many natural born citizens who think that some jobs are beneath them. Frankly, I think any honest work you can do is good. My family passed a strong work ethic along to us. We learned at a very early age that you work for what you want.

Liability is a concern with many people. Everyone is afraid of being sued if the kid gets hurt on their property. I think it has more to do with litigation than theft. There aren't as many kids who want or need to work these days. Mom and dad will give them whatever money they need so there is little need for them to get a job.

Not when I was growing up.
Luckily, they let me stay with them whenever things are tight, but for the most part, no assistance.
Same thing irks me about all these parents whining about how much college is going to cost for their kid.
My stepdad worked in a steelmill all throughout college and graduated with his B/S in Education debt-free.

The way I see it, our country has grown collectively weak in alot of places.
Physical strength, monetary-reasoning, general holding it together.

But then again, it could also be due to the fact that alot of Orange and LA County princesses are buying cheap houses up in the desert and bringing their charade of an uptight attitude with them.
And with their equally ignorant children filling up the local college here and turning it and every other place in the desert into a Starbucks, I'm high-tailing it as soon as I've got the means.

Mostly, I don't know who!! But I do know what kind of A*****E would make a statement like that. You've only been here a little while and now your better then other folks? because your willing to clean toilets for near nothing? Get real.

I would think you shoulda considered yourself lucky to even have a job, seeing you just got over here. And remember that a low wage job like that can't feed, clothes, or pay for shelter for a family.

Some of you complain about folks on welfare, which is like two drops of water in a bucket compared to the hundreds of BILLIONS given the those millionaire stock brokers and bankers. That's what you should be Bit****n about. Your focused on one apple, while the big boys are stealing the whole orchard, and then killing your trees. DAM*IT MAN. That's exactly what they want you to focus on. Pit one small guy against the other while they steal your whole family blind.

I could care less what color a person is, we all need to stand together, arm in arm, be it welfare receiver or a 200 truck company owner. Corporate America doesn't support us, we support them. If we go down, they just move overseas ( Haliburton ) to try to enslave the next bunch of small thinking people. And if it's welfare that you don't like, stop buying China made goods at Walmart and start supporting U.S made goods So that the so called "MOSTLY YOU KNOW WHO'S" can have decent paying jobs and won't need welfare. Steps down off of soapbox
