Gretzky vs Moyes

The Great One's claim as a creditor of the Coyotes was called into question Friday by the city of Glendale Arizona.

The city wants to eliminate or cap the $9.3 million that coach Wayne Gretzky might receive through the team's sale in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

Details were unavailable, as most of the city's motion was filed confidentially per court orders. Glendale has asked the judge to lift that seal.

Also, the city seeks to disqualify team owner Jerry Moyes' $104 million claim.

City attorney Craig Tindall said Glendale has made no claims that Gretzky did anything "in the least" that is legally improper.

He declined to elaborate about the effort to disallow Moyes' claim.

The city requests the judge rule on the issues on or before the team's auction on Sept. 10.
