Walter Cronkite, the television newsman whose steady baritone informed, reassured and guided the nation during the tumultuous 1960s and '70s and who was still regarded as "the most trusted man in America" years after leaving his CBS anchor chair, has died. He was 92.

Cronkite died Friday at his home in New York after a long illness, according to CBS Vice President Linda Mason.

I remember listening to him many, many times, years ago. I don't think I'll ever forget that voice. You didn't have to see him or hear anyone announce that it was him. You heard the voice, and knew who it was. He was also one man that felt the news had to be completely accurate.

After he retired, they had his daughter on TV for an interview about him. She was one very good looking woman back then. I've missed hearing him for a lot of years. Rest in peace, walter.

I remember him from when there were only 3 TV Stations and the nightly news kept us all informed. After he retired he kinda turned into a left-wing crank. While he was the Voice of Network News he was the best.

Am I the only one that didn't realize that he was still alive?

    Mr. Cronkite

Thank you for showing us the way it could have been here in the 21st century, thank you for showing us the history as though we were there, thank you for helping us to understand how we got into the new frontier of space, thank you for helping us to try to make sense of a war that many people objected to.

Mostly, I thank you for having the charisma, the personality for helping us grow up.

You have been missed, and we will now miss you even more.

    May god bless you.

and that is the way it is

No you're not, I thought he was already dead. It's just awful to go through the death of someone twice.
