I read the opinion piece, which cites no sources for the numbers. Perhaps when you can cite a legitimate source, I may take you seriously. A google search is not a legitimate source.

This is common knowledge and has been for at least 3 years that the war cost is over 3 trillion and a high percentage of that was stolen by Cheney !!
No, this is the ranting of a left wing conspiracy theorist.

LOL, Google is not a reputable source of information.

congressional investigation halliburton - Google Search

I guess Congressional investigations of Cheney are just all political too then ?

It is so obvious it is hard for you Republicans to accept.

    http://www.powells.com/biblio/9781568583921?&PID=32513

    Quote:

Halliburton’s Army is the first book to show, in shocking detail, how Halliburton really does business, in Iraq, and around the world. From its vital role as the logistical backbone of the U.S. occupation in Iraq—without Halliburton there could be no war or occupation—to its role in covering up gang-rape amongst its personnel in Baghdad, Halliburton’s Army is a devastating bestiary of corporate malfeasance and political cronyism.

Pratap Chatterjee—one of the world’s leading authorities on corporate crime, fraud, and corruption—shows how Halliburton won and then lost its contracts in Iraq, what Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld did for it, and who the company paid off in the U.S. Congress. He brings us inside the Pentagon meetings, where Cheney and Rumsfeld made the decision to send Halliburton to Iraq—as well as many other hot-spots, including Somalia, Yugoslavia, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Guantánamo Bay, and, most recently, New Orleans. He travels to Dubai, where Halliburton has recently moved its headquarters, and exposes the company’s freewheeling ways: executives leading the high life, bribes, graft, skimming, offshore subsidiaries, and the whole arsenal of fraud. Finally, Chatterjee reveals the human costs of the privatization of American military affairs, which is sustained almost entirely by low-paid unskilled Third World workers who work in incredibly dangerous conditions without any labor protection.

Halliburton’s Army is a hair-raising exposé of one of the world’s most lethal corporations, essential reading for anyone concerned about the nexus of private companies, government, and war.

    Review:

"Chatterjee (Iraq Inc.) delves into the nebulous world of the Houston-based Halliburton corporation, tracing the company to its roots, when a fortuitous meeting with a young Lyndon Baines Johnson propelled the Brown and Root Company (which later merged with Halliburton) into Washington power politics. The author details the military contracting that largely funded the company through WWII and into the present-day war in Iraq, intertwining the company's history with the biographies of Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and other officials in the Bush administration.

Chatterjee provides a laundry list of abuses for which the company has been investigated, including inflated billing of the Pentagon, providing unsafe living conditions for U.S. soldiers, labor exploitation and coverups to avoid congressional inquiry. He concludes with a look at the whistleblowers that brought these scandals into the public eye and the repercussions of the eventual congressional investigation.

Chatterjee keeps the pace of the narrative at a quick clip and nimbly marshals his extensive evidence to reveal — without sanctimony or stridency — Halliburton's record of corruption, political manipulation and human rights abuses." Publishers Weekly (Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc.)

No, a google search is not a source. And the Iraq war and Cheney are not the topic of this thread. Unless you'd like a vacation from the board, I would suggest you stop trying to derail every thread you post in by turning it into an anti-Bush and pro-union thread.

This thread is about a front person who was picked to fool Americans into voting back in the Nixon boys who have ruined the entire world economy, if it is off topic to you, I will quit posting here.

I really don't need to post on a board where posts about unions and governmental corruption is disallowed anyway.

Discussing unions and the government is allowed. Turning every thread you post in into a pro-union or anti-Bush rant is not.

But I'm sure nobody will be lamenting your choice not to post.

So you don't really want the truth posted here in other words.

We can gloss over the last 8 years and why the nation is in the shape it it in and why trucking is in the shape it is in.

I will take a break since that is the case.

I do understand that the truth is stranger than fiction to folks who are in denial.

I like Sara Palin. She brings in a fresh voice of reason and personal responsibility, which is seriously lacking in congress and this administration.

I have heard her speak about smaller goverment and taking personal responsibility. She recently spoke about helping others to get elected who share her personal views. She is willing to take a back seat to being the one running for office. Rather than aborting her downs son, she kept him and is raising him in an apparently loving family atmosphere. Her daughter got into trouble and rather than throwing her out she embraced her and is supporting her and her grandchild. She has been the target of the radical left since she decided to run for national office. Over all I think she has done a good job. I like the fact that she may not be as polished in some of her statements and that she is not afraid to speak her mind. She doesn't come across as being at all pretentious. I don't think she takes herself too seriously. Most of the politicians we see are really caught up in themselves. She seems to genuinely care about others and this country. She is the type of woman who helped build this country. She hunts, fishes and runs her home. She is not a career politician or attorney. She knows how to run a business and what it means to a business owner when the government gets into business. She seems to just be herself. She is not afraid to work hard and get her hands dirty. She is the type of woman the early feminists say they want to become. In reality, the qualities that make her appealing to many of us are the very qualities that make her a target for those who don't want people to be self sufficient or self reliant. She demonstrates by example that people can do for themselves and come from a small town to running for Vice President. I think she is the main reason McCain did as well as he did. That is the only reason McCain got my vote. She gives people hope that they can do for themselves and make a difference. That is what she seems to want to do. If you believe in big government and high taxes then she is not someone whom you will like. She thinks that people should be responsible for themselves. It isn't up to the government to meet all of our needs. She understands that bigger government means higher taxes and less freedom.

Well, that about sums things up nicely, G-Man. I couldn’t have said it better.

Of course, you’ll get a point-by-point narrative now from the lefties, tearing down every point you made. That’s one of the reasons I mostly avoid politics these days. I am a conservative, a Christian, believe in conservative values, and hold fast to high morals and attempt to teach my children the same. That said, though, I believe everyone has the right to believe what they will, be it a liberal and conservative agenda, republican or democrat or whatever. Unfortunately, too many people today are either left wing liberal nutjobs or right wing zealots, and the lines have been drawn so deep in the sand, they will never be erased. Today, it’s either “believe as I believe or you’re wrong and because you’re wrong, I am going to hate you and I might just have to kill you too!” So, who the hell made everyone judge, jury, and ideals executioner of everyone that believes differently? When did personal freedoms to believe as one wishes, vanish in this country?

My wife sometimes wonders why people in general disgust me. It doesn’t take much anymore to illustrate it. At the risk of injecting a religious tone to the discussion, I have to say that it makes me glad that I am a Christian and I do believe what I believe. Eventually, it’s not going to matter. I know how it ends.

And that, too, should bring out the pack.

Sarah Palin is a witless nutjob and is the last person I would want being Head of State and president of my country.

btw, I am neither right, left, republican, or democrat and use common sense, practicality, and the welfare of my fellow man as the foundation for my voting decisions.

To be completely honest, I really do not think she could do any worse than what we now have in the Oval Office. I really do not believe he's any better than she is.

Don't consider myself a "lefty," but.... I WILL be accomodating both of you soon. You first.

That’s one of the reasons I mostly avoid politics these days. I am a conservative, a Christian, believe in conservative values, and hold fast to high morals and attempt to teach my children the same.
I have no problem with your ethical position, TF... in fact, i admire it. Too bad that Palin didn't "teach her chld" (Bristol) as well as you might teach YOURS.

That said, though, I believe everyone has the right to believe what they will, be it a liberal and conservative agenda, republican or democrat or whatever.... So, who the hell made everyone judge, jury, and ideals executioner of everyone that believes differently? ....When did personal freedoms to believe as one wishes, vanish in this country?
I "believe" it was about the time George "Dubya" Bush stole the 2000 election, and ushered in the "new Biblical Administration." I could be wrong! It might have started a couple years ealier when that cheater Gingrich (and something called the MORAL MAJORITY) hired a special prosecutor to destroy Clinton for gettng a B.J.

At the risk of injecting a religious tone to the discussion, I have to say that it makes me glad that I am a Christian and I do believe what I believe. Eventually, it’s not going to matter. I know how it ends.
You know?..... My DAD says the same thing! And although I RESPECT his religious 'beliefs,' I don't think he has given any consideration to the thousands of years of philosophy of great men like Plato, Socrates, Descartes and many others who see things through a "different" looking glass than a few diciples (groupies) of a charismatic man named Jesus.

I don't think ANYONE kows how this World will end. By definition.... you BELIEVE how it will end.... by FAITH... in the unseen, foretelling the UNKNOWN. That comforts you. And you NEED comfort.

Nevertheless, I applaud the principles of a "Christian life" and see the benefits of it. I also RESPECT your brave committment to and testimony of it. If I am true to MY beliefs, you will get no condemnation or prejudice from ME concerning it.

OUR Constitution guarantees us both the freedom OF religious beliefs... AND the freedom FROM religious control. That is all I ask. Believe as you choose.... but, make NO LAWS that encumber MY freedoms, based on YOUR beliefs.

And do not think that "I" have no religious beliefs. I just choose to interpret the Constitution as the protection it was MEANT to be against the intrusion of the Church of England (or any subsequent religious authority) into and over MY LIFE.

THAT is the Constitution I swore to protect when I enlisted in the military. THAT is the antithesis of the "fundamenalists" that our soldiers are dying in conflict with. And THAT is the "spirit" of America that I will again risk my life to defend.... against all enemies foreign OR DOMESTIC.... if it comes down to it.
Remember... friends are few and far between.

    TRUCKIN' AIN'T FOR WUSSES!!!

I take exception to that for the simple matter that even the best intentioned parent doing their best to teach their children, doesn’t always succeed. From everything that I have read, the Palin family taught their children to have high standards and morals and Bristol – as all teenager do – had a mind of her own. I applaud the Palins for standing by their daughter and supporting her, even though her actions were certainly disappointing. The same would hold true with my children. They are my children and seem to have good heads on their shoulders. But with 7 of them, the odds are that one of them will screw things up before they’ve fully grown that frontal lobe in their brain. And I can love and support my child, even though their decision and their action would be disappointing. I tell my children all the time…forgiveness for doing stupid things will always be there. But many times, the consequences are for a lifetime.

I "believe" it was about the time George "Dubya" Bush stole the 2000 election, (snip)
Let me stop you there. The stolen election thing is old. It never happened, except in the minds of just a few people and even for them, it should be long over and done with. Your boy is in the White House…you should concentrate on hoping that he does something right before he destroys the entire country. As far as Bush goes, you might not have liked Bush and there are many things I didn’t like about the man, either. But there were things I did like and that I did agree with. In my opinion, he turned out to be a marginal president in very difficult times, which also in my opinion, was a far cry better than what we would have had with Gore or Kerry.

I don't think ANYONE knows how this World will end. By definition.... you BELIEVE how it will end.... by FAITH... in the unseen, foretelling the UNKNOWN. That comforts you. And you NEED comfort.
I didn’t say anything about knowing how the world ends. I said I know how the final confrontation is going to end. People talk about the end of the world all the time, but going by biblical prophecy, we’re not talking about the end of the world. We’re talking about the beginning of the millennial reign of Christ. I’m certain lots of bad things will happen…many are happening now. But I’m just as certain that the world will still be here, though there will be many changes.

OUR Constitution guarantees us both the freedom OF religious beliefs... AND the freedom FROM religious control. That is all I ask. Believe as you choose.... but, make NO LAWS that encumber MY freedoms, based on YOUR beliefs.
I don’t make the laws and even if I did, would not seek to make laws to dictate how everyone should believe. I am a firm believer that people should have the right to believe as they wish, right or wrong. I believe that’s God’s intention, too. Unfortunately, the laws that are getting passed today governing how someone should speak or believe are the anti-Christian ones. But that’s OK…it simply is what it is and part of the times we live in. Once again, it makes me glad that I know what I know.

I won’t delve any deeper into this part of the discussion. The discussion is about Palin, although it is admittedly hard to keep it right on that topic, since I believe so much of the final days hinges on what’s happening right now in this country and in the world. Still, I agree with G-Man on his points about Palin. I think that should she be gearing up for a presidential run in 3 ½ years, she would annihilate Obama, if we ever even see another presidential election. Obama, in just 6 short months, has already lost the independents and left-leaning republicans that got him over the hump and even ACORN wouldn’t be able to save his bacon in the next election. His socialistic ruining of this country has even some of his most ardent supporters beginning to ask questions. What he will likely do in the next 3 ½ years is nothing short of mind-boggling and the rising chorus of “told you so” is beginning to reach high decibel levels.

But of course, 3 ½ years is also a lot of time for the ‘savior’ to get himself entrenched as a permanent president. At this point, I don’t see us ever getting rid of him now, but that goes right back into believing that he will be the instrument of this country’s demise, which is again linked to believing/knowing what is destined or prophesied to happen.
