Am I Employable?

Hello everyone. I'm new here and didn't exactly know where to post this question...

Here's my story:

On April 15, 2009 I was involved in a rearend accident on I-16 in GA. The accident totalled the truck I was driving (someone else owned it-i just drove it). I don't remember much about the accident cause i bumped my head pretty hard. I do remember seeing tail lights a little ways in the distance and then the next thing i remember is i'm disoriented in my cab looking for my cell phone to call 911.

I believe the other driver was broke down in the slow lane with no flashers on or triangles out. Still no excuse, i know.

anyway, I've been trying to find other possibilities locally and there just aren't any jobs locally. The question then is this: Am I still hireable in this industry?

BTW I also have 2 pts on my license for a 15 over (70 in a 55). I have not checked my DAC yet. I was told i needed to do that.

I contacted a previous employer who denied me when they found out about the speeding ticket. I figure my career is over; at least for the next few years. But I am curious about any possiblilities...

I think you already know the answer to your question since you pretty well answered yourself. Few if any insurance agencies will allow a company to hire someone with a 15 mph over speeding violation much less an at-fault rear end accident in the recent past!

Your only hope is to find a small independent O/O that needs a driver.

OUR only hope is that with your history, you DON'T find a job in the trucking industry and that the highways will be safer.

I hate to be the bearer of bad knews but it looks to me like your career at least for about three years and maybe even longer is over with two major offenses on your record that most companies would terminate you for.

OTOH, rear-enders and over-speeds seem to be the easiest ones to avoid.

Well I do have other opportunities that don't involve foodservice, grease burns or crappy pay. I had already resigned myself to being off the road and was really just looking for confirmation...yet change doesn't come easy.

It's just as well anyway I have two daughters and a 6mo old baby boy that i need to be home with...I guess I just need to cling to all the old esoteric cliches:

Wendy's wants 2 years experience (insurance reasons). Taco Bell says if you put on more then the alloted amount of cheese they will make you pay for the excesss. I have also have heard that Mc Donalds recruiters have been calling the breakrooms at Burger Kings trying to hire people to come cook their fries. Jack in the Box is toying with the idea of lease purchasing the deep fryers to the cooks.

The fact is there are companies out there that will put you on, you just have to find one.
Not to be a d ouche but, with little kids you should get your head out of your azz and think about what the f you are doing out there.
