Default Dump Truckin at its best

YouTube - Crazy Ass Truck Driver

This guy really beats that old mack. But it just goes to show mack will take a beating and ask for more.

YouTube - Old mack giving it hell

    YouTube - mack dump truck

I posted some of these videos so some of you OTR guys can see how dump trucks take a beating. An OTR truck has an easy life.

This is a video of milling and paving. The company i work for does alot of trucking for another company that does nothing but milling and paving so i get stuck alot doing it. Paving is easy but milling can be a PITA sometimes. If you go to fast it shoots on your tailgate go to slow and the miller hits your truck. Also your left leg wants to fall off when your done. In the lowest gear in my truck it is still to fast so that means i am pushing in the clutch and letting it out alot.

Thats one of the things that suck about dump trucks is the weather. You have to work around the weather. Over all i like dump trucks if you could work everyday. But even with all the days off i have and being laid off in the winter i still gross 41k. Which i still dont think is too bad.

Also quarries are easy off road . They are made for trucks to go to to pick stuff up. Try taking a load of stone back in the woods were your the 1st truck to go.

There is a reason dump trucks are double framed got bigger axles and low gears. I see tractors made in to dump trucks and they just dont last at all. They are made to light to handle the work.

They are just two different types of trucks for two different type of jobs

Dump Trucks are a lot of fun!

When I was a kid I would spend the entire summer in my dad's dump truck. We would go to some pretty wild places, of course he took care of his truck so I never saw any crazy s**t like that. We lived in FL so he could have worked 24/7/365.

Once I moved to the west coast, i saw some pretty wild dump trucks. Nothing like what dad had!

This looks a LOT like one of my dads old trucks (His was a tri-axle instead of a tandem):

Here is a Dump Truck similar to the ones in the NW:

Ford390 then dump trucks out west are goofy as hell. I don't understand them at all. It must be them messed up bridge laws or something out there.

Your right you do go to some wild places in dump trucks.

Nothing goofy about those dump trucks Mack. That pic he posted, is a 4-axle truck, pulling a 4-axle switch. In the pic, the truck was backed up to the switch, to transfer the tub onto the truck. They carry about 80,000 pounds of dirt with that set up. Gross out at 105,500 pounds....give or take.
Nice and easy way to haul lots of dirt, especially when you are paid by the cubic yard to haul.

I can with all honesty say those youtube vids in the OP did not impress me in any shape or form, watching some dump trucks go in reverse is not exactly amazing.

Well it was the way that driver was driving it. Going in soft stuff like that will tear your truck up quick. That guy would have been fired if i owned that truck. Thats why they have dozer's and trackhoes to move the dirt after you dump it.

I posted these videos just to show some people who never drove or worked around dump trucks just what type of beating they take. Also what type of places they have to go and the different type of work they do.

Well, I drove a logging truck for 16 years and I think we put our trucks through the same if not more then a dump truck. We had long hood petes with air ride. No broken suspensions, no torn out trannies or rearends. we ran 550 cats and 18 speeds. Its all how you drive it.
Don't trust anybody. Especially that guy in the mirror.

When I was a kid, our next door neighbor was having his yard leveled, which meant a LOT of dirt. They were hauling it in with tri-axle straight dumps.

One of the trucks backed in to dump, but I guess the dirt was wet, so it stuck in the bed. When he raised the bed, itstood the truck up on its rear axle. The had to use an excavator to get the dirt out.

After they got the dirt out, they found out the truck had sunk in the soft ground. So they talked to my dad and he let them chain up to a huge silver maple tree in our yard (prolly 3 feet across at the trunk). The truck was so stuck that when they were using come-alongs on it, it pulled the base of the tree out of the ground.

They ended up having to get a big wrecker in, shutting down the main street just to get it out.

For a 10 year old boy, that was the BEST thing ever to watch.

Wtf? If we would have had roads like that we would have been painting fog lines on them. Sometimes we only had where they cut the stumps off close to the ground and then rounded them off so we wouldnt cut a tire.
