You start in, the light is green and you lose sight of it, you come out the other side and see the light again, it's now red. Pulling out from Poplar, your blind on your left until you get to the stop bar for the light because you have trees on your left all the way up to the junction with 17.
Mr. Ford, I'm not disputing your account of the "view" for a driver heading NORTH on 17, nor that of a driver from Poplar Rd looking to his LEFT. But, the article clearly says that the truck driver was heading SOUTH on 17, which puts the traffic from Poplar Rd on HIS left (according to the maps I saw on the news website.)

If the picture I saw on the website was facing North, (as I believe it WAS) the truck coming SOUTHBOUND would have been apparent for several minutes, as there are no trees in the wide open median I see.

Perhaps, I"m seeing it from the opposite direction. But, I don't think so. Have you looked at the pictures I'm referring to? IF the camera was facing south, and the car came from some extensison of Poplar Rd that doesn't show on the map they gave, then I could see your point. But, I don't believe that is the case. I believe, according to the pictures, that the CAR turned left, across two lanes AND a median, into the path of a Southbound truck who wasn't slowing down for the red light. According to the pictures, that truck should have been visible for a good 1/4 mile!

I'm not saying the trucker wasn't at fault for running the light. I'm saying the car was a fool to pull out in front of him.

Hobo, the article that said that is wrong, the truck was heading north. If the truck was heading south and the car pulled out to also go south, then how did the truck smash the car in the driver's door? It should have hit them in the passenger side or rear but it ended up smashing into the drivers side which would be impossible if they were both headed south.

I drive thru that intersection daily with my yard being a mile away so nah, no need to see the pics.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up for me, Mr. Ford. The article was obviously wrong. I only asked if you saw the pic so you could clarify whether it was taken facing north, as I believed it was. Nowhere in the two articles I read did it mention which side of the vehicle was crashed into.

BTW, the article also said they had installed a warning light that a signal was ahead, and painted "Watch it, Dummy!" on the roadway! With an 83,000 lb load of sand, the truck driver was pushing it whether he "knew" about the missing brakes or not!

Yeah originally that article had a pic of the car plastered to the front end of the Pete. The pic was taken facing south but they have since taken it down, possibly by the families wishes? Gotta love our local newswriters, they barely give you any info and then when they do, it's usually wrong.......

That warning light is a joke to most people, they have yet to slow down coming around there. What they need is warning lights that only flash when the light is about to change. A warning light that constantly flashes eventually becomes ignored by drivers.
