Default Trucker kills friend of my family

    http://www.wsoctv.com/news/17107406/detail.html

I don't know if this driver had been drinking, or texting, or on the phone or what. But he was probably speeding. On the newscast, they said he pushed the Camry several HUNDRED YARDS into the back of the SUV. Both vehicles included members of the same family, and the back bumper of the Camry ended up behind the front seats.

The father was driving the SUV, the mother driving the Camry. They are members of the last church my father pastored, and the father is a very fine deacon there, and we've all played golf together many times.

If I'm not mistaken, Dixon road is Hwy 74 bypass through Shelby. I'm not sure of that.

To heap sorrow on sorrow, the family was returning from an aunt's funeral in Tennessee.

    It's a sad day here.

Sounds like a horrible accident! My thoughts & prayers are with the boys family and yours.

Thanks everyone, for the thoughts. I talked to my Dad last night, and even HE was pretty tore up about it. Not that he doesn't usually care.... just that he deals with it all the time.

I wanted to send condolences to the family, but they know I'm a truck driver, and I just don't know how that would sit with them.

Send your condolences. If they are friends of your family they will appreciate the sentiment from you as a person, and not a truck driver.

More than likely, an OTR driver.

Might have been, don't know. But, he WAS a tanker yanker! Probably couldn't handle the surge once he noticed the stoplight was red.

What the hell does being an otr driver have to do with anything? That is like saying all teenagers are immature and irresponsible. I'm sorry but I get tired of you guys saying when there is a wreck it's an otr driver. Ain't we all suppose to stick together? Local drivers get into wrecks as well as regional and short haul drivers! We all make mistakes and some of them costly but you don't know if that driver had health issues such as a heart attack or stroke. It's not what part of the industry the driver is in that makes it bad, it's whether they were paying attention or had a medical problem that caused him to lose control. So Belpre if a driver from your company got into a wreck you wouldn't give him a hard time cause he wasn't an otr driver? I'll look at this when I get back home next Saturday but I thought somebody would have said something by now, I apologize for being an d*ck.

Actually, Double L... the driver was reported to be uninjured, so that would preclude the possibility of stroke or whatever. And he was charged at the scene with misdemeanor vehicular homicide. He screwed up, plain and simple. He was 45 and a tanker yanker. COULD be a newbie, but more likely an "experienced" driver.

But, nothing I've heard lately says whether he was local or OTR. That is a bad intersection for wrecks, say the locals. But, I really felt good reading that remark about him being OTR... and looking over at the TANKER avatar.

I dunno. You might inform them that you are currently a former truck driver. That may help.

What is your problem, Belpre? This is the first time in 3 years that I've been between jobs. I start again with a new company Monday! Heck, Mackman changes jobs more often than I change underwear but you don't call HIM a "former trucker" when he is changing jobs, DO YOU? Just hope the economy doesn't cause YOUR litltle "local" company to go belly up with no notice!

And hope like HELL you never make the mistake THIS driver did, and destroy the lives of a good family! Or that one of your cohorts destroys part of YOUR family!

I didn't ask for any prayers or condolences on this thread, Bel. But, I SURE didn't need your assinine remarks!

These days, you do not have to be from Indiana to fit into that description.

    Destroy the farms...
and grass will grow in the streets of the cities.

Destroy the economy of the blue-collar worker...
and grass will grow in the executive offices.

Such a terrible thing to happen to a family.....

This is a prime example of why a driver of a CMV should never have, and or use alcohol while out on the road regardless of what the FMCSA regs say.....

    Very sad....

It is very sad, but none of the charges were alcohol related so what is your point?????
