    Default It's official

I'm official a Class A CDL holder, well the permit anyway. I got my tanker and double triple endrosement along with air brakes. I tell ya what it was a cake walk except for dang them trick questions. On top of that I'm also an official register voter.

Congrats on passing the written tests. Actually they're on computer now aren't they?

Your permit is good for one year which will give you plenty of time to practice for the skills and road tests.

Yup sure is good for a year. I can't do nothing until I get the actual CDL, since that is what everyone is gonna tell me. Yeah it's all on computers now which is nice. Touch screen too.

Heh - not in West Virginia. We're still in the 19th century here.

By the time we get touchscreen computers in the DMV in WV, they'll have a system in every other state where you just walk in, put your head into a hole for a brainscan to see if you know the information or not.

Brainscans, now that would be cool!

Not all of the DMV's here have the computers yet, but they are getting there. Some people I know who are totally computer phobic will drive 40 miles to one that still does "written" tests on paper. They don't "trust" the computers.

Good news, my dad said he'd bring his truck and trailer out here so I can do the road test. He hasn't taken any Evansville, Indiana loads cause the rate is low so until they raise the rate he won't being to Evansville.

So you are going to hop up into the big rig and head right over to take the drive test without any real instruction.....

And you wonder why no one will hire a 18 y/o whose ink is not even dry on the PERMIT.....

Grow up kid... you cannot shortcut the process like you seem to think you will be able to.....

I'm not giving up Mackman, that isn't an option. As for you BigDiesel your comments don't bother me, I don't even acknowledge them. So your just wasting your time typing away from your closet on the computer.

Bad phrasing on my part, what I meant to say was the insults don't bother me at all and I could careless if he wastes his time insulting people. I was in a hurry cause I had to take care of some stuff.

I got my "class 1" license ( the equivalent of todays CDL) when I was 17.

My mom had to give "parental consent" before the DMV would allow it.

Never went to a "driving school". I don't think there were any truck driving schools back then. I learned because I had been riding along , observing how to drive a truck since I was old enough to sit in a seat.

Started practicing when I was 11 years old, had it pretty much figured out by the time I got my "4 wheeler" license at 16.

Yes, this was back in the 70's, but where there's a will, there's a way.
If you can't shift it smoothly, you shouldn't be driving it.

I called a company in Carlinville. The name of the company is Illinois Family Farms. They said that they hire at 18 and will provide a truck for the road test. Here is the link to their site http://www.illff.com/

im 18, started at 18, next month will be 8 mo. of drving i have about 18, 000 miles experience as of tonite. now BD, i went to a school, nationally reputed for that matter, HOWEVER in both LL and my defense, the best learning ive had is actually being on the road. schools are great, but other than learning some new "basic" skills, there is not much you cant learn by doing. LL like me could be more of a doer-learner, not a sit in a classroom everyday learner. you can read all the books you want and still not drive as well as me. now, while im not pushing for those to get a permit and run with it, you can learn more on the road than u can in school.

that said, i have been conversiong with LL on YIM for quite some time now, and i am confident in his ability to pilot a 18 wheeler safely. so before you or anyone else start discriminating like an insurance company, i say review ALL the facts, not just 18 with a permit...
