    Default My first big fish

I've never caught anything bigger than a small perch/bullhead LOL, so this was pretty cool for me Hubby n' I were goofin' off w/the neighbors paddle boat- trolling LOL- I was about to give up, was reelin' in and just as my lure came to the top of the water, this fish jumps up at it- I didnt think I had it at first, then suddenly the drag took off- very cool feeling- a first for me, I was so excited! It measured 31", the scale said it only weighed 3.5 lbs- felt more tho. Yeah, the fish is better lookin' LOL- it wasnt all sunburnt n' sweaty

    Nice fish...
Take the next one home to eat...those Pike are fantastic eating.
Fillet them like you would any fish, then slice out the 'Y' bones.
    Yum-Yum... 8)

I go to a small lake here that is filthy with blue gill, large mouth bass and pike. (a no-motor lake)
They all only reach a certain size though, because it is a small lake, but always lots of action, and you go home with a heavy stringer.

Lots of painted turtles and frogs. Really peaceful place to spend the day.

Ok... And for your next assignment... You will catch a 63" MUSKY...

I won't tell you want size I used to catch in WI, but it really doesn't matter. The first one you catch is ALWAYS a RECORD for you. After that, you go up from there. They do get over 42" long, and if you like a fight, the bigger they get, the better they fight.

For your first one, that's not a bad catch at all.

Sometime, get a recipe for PICKLED HERRING, and try them for that. You can make a wine sauce for it too. Better than what you buy in the grocery store.

When you do, take a good sturdy TIRE THUMPER with you. If you don't, only half the fight will be in the water... The other will be in the boat, and they'll tear you to shreds. I've heard of guys that took a gun with them... then added a "water letter outter" to the boat... (another hole or two)

No, I never did, but a couple of guys that borrowed my boat left it at the bottom of Lake Nakomis once.

I chuckled about this beating the pike to death...hehehe.

I like to do spearfishing for Pike on the ice. I had a humongous Pike one time I speared, and left at the bottom until he looked spent. I started to bring him up, and just before he got to the hole, he went nuts again, so I sent him to the bottom again for round 2. I finally got him up, and once he was out of the hole...mind you with a weighted spear stabbed through him...he began thrashing me and the fish shanty to bits...and I somehow got him out and onto the ice with only fifty bruises and 200 cuss words.

I kicked his carcass off the spear and later took a look...he even froze in a curved angle...smartass. Got him home, and thawed him out to be able to fillet, and that monster came back to life in my sink. I heard all kinds of commotion going on in my kitchen...wondering WTF?? I run in there and this Pike was thrashing around again. I think I was beating him with a rolling pin... ...he even bit me. :?
