    Default construction, construction,construction....

Is anyone else sick and tired of ALL the frickin construction sites everywhere? I know dont get me wrong summer is construction season and yes I know it needs to be done, but honestly the construction zones that make me so mad and I'm sick of them is when you come up to them and they slow you down to either 45 or 55mph and all they have is a bunch of cones set up on the shoulder, no working, digging, etc goin on. Honestly why do they set up cones or barriers on shoulders and call it a work zone? Anyways, guess I better just suck it up and enjoy the rest of the summer!!! Happy 4th everyone.
I'll gladly pay u tuesday for a hamburger today.

It is called the MUTCD (Manual for uniform traffic control devices) or more regulations we have to follow set up by our government.

it's agravating but it's a part of trucking so I just grin and bear it. I run to chicago at least once a week so you can imagine how much construction i face on that day. what should be an hour or two trip in and out of chicago twice that day turns into an all day event, in at about 4 or 5 am out by 9 pm

No kidding, Mack. I had a close call last summer. We were finishing up a job and the foreman wanted me to flag, so I grabbed a paddle. I was stopping traffic and some bozo decided to go around me and actually hit my paddle and dang near hit me. I was suprised he didn't hit me because he was in a older small toyota pickup with the tiny mirrors, so he couldn't have missed me by much.

Would you want me driving through your workplace at 70+ MPH?

and all they have is a bunch of cones set up on the shoulder, no working, digging, etc goin on.
Well, that depends on what they're doing. If it's just paving, then they may have to wait for the trucks to arrive from the plant.
And, you overlook one of the biggest annoyances of any construction site - the state inspector. I've wasted so much time at construction sites because of an overzealous state inspector. Yes, they can bring everything to a screeching halt with just a few words, and an OSHA inspector, even more so.

I would like to explain myself. in Mass they set up cones and barrels with no work going on and after a month or so of no work going on they set a trooper up to get you doing 55 MPH in a "45MPH work zone" they never planned on doing any work but it's still a work zone

And what's wrong with doing that ceb? Are you sure they weren't working at night only? Or that they only work certain days at those sites?

Went thru WV and Ohio over the weekend, what a mess with all the bridge work going on in both states. Guess the Minny collapse got all that work going. The bridges in both states had gotten real bad, lot of potholes had shown up.

What bothers me is when they have a work zone on a bridge, then let you open it back up only to hit the next bridge a mile away and have to slow right back down again. Ohio did it right though, they just kept the lane closed thru all 3 or 4 bridges they were working on in a 5 mile stretch down on Rt.52. Or better yet, the lights that flash when workers are present so that you know to slow down to the safe speed. Came into WV, work zone popped up, lights were not flashing. Popped over the next hill and there sat the man with workers present, myself and another truck were still clipping along at 75 in a 55. Got it slowed down before we got to them and everything was fine. Not cool to have workers present and the lights not working that are supposed to warn you they are there.
