    Default Reefers are noisy!

How do you guys do it? I I'm pulling a climate load (HHG trailer with a reefer unit) right now. Actually, at the moment, I'm unhooked and about 100ft away and can still hear that bastard. It's also a pig on fuel and has a self contained 20gal tank, so I have to stop twice a day.

Now, I hear some reefers and they don't sound too bad on noise db. This one looks a bit like a dinosaur, so that might be the reason why. I guess it is something you just get used to

I tend to sleep better with noise so a reefer unit wouldn't bother me, neither does an idling truck for that matter. I hate sleeping with complete silent!

I backed into a spot in the back row of a truck stop over the weekend. 20 spots in the row and I was the only one in the row. I am outside of my truck straightening out the stuff in my headache rack when some AHOLE (whose nationality will remain ann ano annono (not given) because it doesn't matter backs in right next to me. So as I spent the night with my truck shut off enjoying the nice evening he idles his truck and has his reefer unit running. Why didn't I just move? Because I am stubborn.

I've found that most of the Thermo Kings are quiet but those damn carriers, especially the older ones, are LOUD! I will always park next to a flat bed or dry van if I can. It's not the reefer sound that annoys me, it's the ones that turn on and off all night long... :x

What can be said about reefers? Well, everyone likes to eat so that should end the discussion right there. Improvement takes time; new technology had quieted reefers big time, but loud or not, that doggone reefer will rock you to sleep in five minutes. Plus you just don't feel right if you have no christmas tree to watch going down the road. After countless years hauling produce I am partial to reefers, plus nothing is as pretty as that shiny hiney shagging tail as it steeps on; into the night. Oh, I might add;--- Just like one flatbedder, said over the cb, thru effingham, il--You ain't gonna catch ole knucklehead, because he was highsteeping; when he come by me!

I have pulled a reefer before that didn't have an auto switch. Once you turned it on it was on the whole time. You might worry you aren't going to get to sleep. But nothing wakes you up quicker than it shutting off when It shouldn't. Now it's time to worry.

WE are "real" truckers! Trucks are big and NOISY! WE accept that!

I'm pulling a climate load (HHG trailer with a reefer unit) right now. Actually, at the moment, I'm unhooked and about 100ft away and can still hear that bastard.
You SHOULD have parked in what they call a TRUCKSTOP..... that way, you wouldn't be able to tell if it was YOUR "bastard" or someone ELSE'S!!

It's also a pig on fuel and has a self contained 20gal tank, so I have to stop twice a day.
There's something wrong with THAT! Most reefers have a 50 gal tank, and even in continuous mode, won't burn 20 gals in less than 36 hours! [Even keeping the contents at -20 degrees!]

Now, I hear some reefers and they don't sound too bad on noise db. This one looks a bit like a dinosaur, so that might be the reason why.
MIGHT be why they gave it to YOU!

I guess it is something you just get used to
EVEN if you don't "pull" one.... you should be "used" to it by now! We're everywhere! It's part of TRUCKING!

JUST yanking your tankchain, B/C!! I KNOW they can be a pain in the butt, but like someone said..... WE can't sleep if they STOP!!

Personally, I AM aware of the inconvenience for you "wimpier" drivers, and OFTEN will pull straight in between two flatbeds or dryvans.... so as NOT to disturb your "baby" sleep! I have NO PROBLEM backing out!

Now.... if we can JUST get a designated "back forty" lot for those danged BULLHAULERS and PIGSHIPS!!

Earplugs are not so bad.... but CLOTHESPINS???

I can understand why freshly picked PRODUCE must get to market quickly, before it wilts/spoils..... but LIVESTOCK?? Heck... ship 'em by RAIL!!!

Yeah..... I voted for "beyotch"..... but ONLY because you didn't offer the choice of WIMP!!

Next time your sitting around for a day, with the Barbie out cooking a steak and some veggies, getting paid BIG HHG bucks for doing next to NOTHING..... offer a beer and a burger to one of us REEFER drivers! It would ONLY take a simple "three point turn" and we could make your life easier! Just make sure the beer is COLD!

Seriously..... MOST reefer drivers are newbies! It doesn't even OCCUR to most of them to pull straight in to put their reefer near the BACK of other truckers' trailers! With a KIND suggestion, and a cold beer, you could TEACH a new driver something that should be obvious.... AND get a good night's sleep! And maybe even make a friend!

Drivers complain about OTHER drivers all day long on the road. But, when you get a chance to be face to face (side by side) with them, you "clam up" and have nothing to SHARE! So.... who IS the problem?

Are we a 'fraternity' of drivers? Or a 'sororety' of beeyotch's?? CHANGE comes ONLY from those who are willing to INSTRUCT. ENLIGHTENMENT is the privelege of the "master," and NOT the "responsibility" of the grasshopper!

A pile of clay, if not "molded" by an experienced hand, becomes a pile of BRICK! If a trucker is not willing to help make another (new) trucker a work of art, then he has no one else to blame if they BOTH end up as a BRICK!!
Remember... friends are few and far between.

    TRUCKIN' AIN'T FOR WUSSES!!!

20 gal tank? Noisy? An old, out-dated unit. And, the insulation and door seals are not as good as they are today. What we pull now are designed much quieter and more efficient. I don't have any problem sleeping with these. But, I did have a chance to pull a relic some months ago. Set at zero, yes, I was fueling the reefer every day. And, when the engine started up, I was expecting to see windows crack.

You're simply being "BLESSED" with an INITIATION...

I'm sure it's only temperary. You'll have something quieter behind you soon. For now, you're pulling a "REEFER COMPANY REJECT...
    Destroy the cities...
    and they will rebuild them.
    Destroy the farms...
and grass will grow in the streets of the cities.

Destroy the economy of the blue-collar worker...
and grass will grow in the executive offices.

    The bill has come due.

Well, I'm still not making big HHG bucks for doing next to nothing  But it did pay 3.50/mi (my cut) and I don't pay for the refer fuel. Well, I do, but it is reimbursed.

I just looked at the unit- TK model XB-2 Max. It has a built in tank underneath the unit. I think I stuffed 22 gal in when it was almost empty.

But, alas, we are not a reefer carrier mainly. It is for these medical machines that treat cancer. I'd start sounding like IronEagle if i told you how much 1 system costs  When I get back I have a permanently assigne 53' electronics hhg trailer with a tuck under liftgate (no reefer).

I did a load of hhg about 3 weeks ago though! 8) I (almost) missed the good times. I bought a set of walkboards and 220 pads, so they will load me with hhg when I have cubes open- something the other drivers at my agency would not do
