While I hear other drivers talk about "STUPID 4-WHEELERS", I tend to think of them as "UN-INFORMED". But, this guy isn't a 4-wheeler. That thing has got 18 wheels... I'm speechless.... -   and  some more...

Someone should take that driver out in the woods and beat him in the head with a shovel! I can only hope that somehow his or her employer is made aware of this clown.... or if its an O/O....that his or her insurance company and brokers become aware of what this driver is stupidly doing.

Its "*******s" like this that make us all look bad!!

While the COT unit passing on the shoulder, was the wrong thing for the driver to do...the fellow filming his journey up the hill did some things wrong himself.

1: He failed to drive on the shoulder, which would allow those trucks which do not loose speed climbing hills, to pass his slower truck safely.

In Oregon, it is legal for trucks that cannot maintain road speed, too use the shoulder, to clear the road for faster traffic. On I-5 there are signs posted at the bottom and mid-point of each hill, advising slower traffic to use the shoulder lane..which has been strengthened and widened for the purpose.
On those stretch's of roadway where the shoulder has not been strengthened to support loaded trucks, there are signs posted, declaring the shoulder off limits to traffic.

Judging by the video, the trucks were NB on I-5, on the stretch of road between Roseburg and Cottage Grove.

2: He knew that there was a truck passing him on both the right and left sides of his truck...and he accelerated once upon reaching the hill's summit..instead of maintaining his speed, or dropping speed, to allow the truck on his right to clear his unit. After the COT truck had passed him, he then took it upon himself to continue to pace the COT truck, ranting and raging the entire time.

Had there been an accident..OSP would have written him a ticket...just like the one which would have been written for the COT driver.

3: He was running a video. That alone show's poor judgement on his part, and explains to some degree why he was not using the shoulder himself.

Ignorance is bliss, and the video proves that there were two ignorant drivers on that stretch of roadway, at the same time. If there had been an accident, and the driver with video running, had shown said video to a LEO on scene..he would have received an appropriate citation.

that guy videotaping the deal would HATE laredo, texas. mexican truck drivers down there pass on the right no matter what. they drive like they're still in mexico, crank illegal u-turns with on/incoming traffic, i saw a couple run some red lights, many of them cut me off as well as other drivers, and so many other things that makes me worried if they will, once and for all, get full access to america's highways. it'll be complete freaking chaos.

interstate did it RIGHT and COT should have done the same

true but i see no sign in the video

did you SEE the COT truck cross the line and almost HIT HIM...? that is WHY he moverd over not to try to pass but to keep from having this ***** cave in the side of his truck

Had there been an accident..OSP would have written him a ticket...just like the one which would have been written for the COT driver.

3: He was running a video. That alone show's poor judgement on his part, and explains to some degree why he was not using the shoulder himself.
how is having a dash cam showing poor judgement....?
you can tell it's a dash cam setup if you LOOK you will see that the cam never moves..! if it's like mine it has a mic so yes it will pick up what ever is said, so he was mad at the SOB.

for what having a dash cam in not llegal... but it would have showen COT not using his turn signal, passing on the RIGHT, crossing the line, tailgating interstate, crossing the ling when behind interstate. and if you look at the video you will see that he could have passed on the left just as interstate did.

Texas DOT has starting issuing citations to idiots like the one that had the dash cam! Impeding the flow of traffic! I believe it starts at a $250.00 fine!

Get the h&%$ out of the middle lane if you cannot maintain your speed!

The DA was the one with the dash came doing much less than the speed limit, and failing to yield to the trucks that were pulling the hill at speed! There ARE signs posted on that stretch and many similar stretches around the country.

And then, to speed up and block the left lane again, so the other trucks and 4 wheelers could not pass him! And what his wonderfully edited film does not show, is he was more than likely playing CB Rambo before this happened. Hypocrit!

SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT! And this means all the monkeys that work for the ATA affiliated companies that use that stupid SMITH System!

I know in Texas, it is not illegal to pass or be passed on the shoulder!

Wish VA would start doing the same thing. That is the reason why so many wrecks are happening anymore. People start taking wild chances to pass these fools that are ignorant to the fact that they are causing a traffic mess. What they are doing is against the law per the LEO's own mouths but none seem to have the gonads here to pull the idiots over and cite them. Instead the state has all bases covered, law book says that if the vehicle behind you flashes their lights or honks their horn and you do not yield to them, your breaking the law and will be fined for impeding traffic and/or not yielding the right of way. Next law reads, if you flash your lights or honk your horn at another vehicle, you are considered an aggressive driver. Breaking that law warrants a fine and/or jail time. :?:

you may want to look at the video AGAIN i only see TWO marked lanes

you mean like slow traffic keep right.... well he was in the right lane.. and the ***** that passed him on the shoulder almost hit him when the guardrail started and he didn't have the room to keep driving on the shoulder. but your logic is that the driver should have been driving ON THE SHOULDER but then you would have said he was the idiot when he ran out of room and tryed to cut off the flatbed...
interstate passed him on the left WHY couldn't the driver of the flatbed.

And then, to speed up and block the left lane again, so the other trucks and 4 wheelers could not pass him!
again if you would just LOOK at the video you would see the reason he cut into the left lane was to keep from getting hit by the flatbed.

Actually, several of your points are incorrect! You need to read the post and the previous post again! That pass has signs at the bottom and about half-way up, the states to use the shoulder if you cannot maintain your speed!!!!!!!

Do not remember the exact wording, but the signs are there! The state engineered the shoulders for trucks that could not maintain their speed. It is obvious from the video, that the dash cam truck was well below the average speed of the rest of the traffic on that grade!

Thus, the lane he should have been in, would have been the shoulder lane! Thus the far right lane! Slower traffic stay Right!!!

You can verify my post regarding Texas Law, by looking it up! Texas has gone through extreme effort to make sure the laws of the state are available to anyone that wants to read them!

The DA should have been in the shoulder lane since he could not maintain speed, and thus impeding the flow of traffic!

My comment on him moving to the left lane, was in reference to the second time, not the first! When he was attempting to cut the flatbed off from passing the interstate truck, or at least that is how it appeared to me!

Some roads have improved shoulders, others do not! We did not have much of a problem with lack of courtesy until a few years ago, and the flood of came down here! Until then, common courtesy was to move over to the shoulder and allow the faster traffic to pass, especially if a courtesy flash of the lights was given to the slower vehicle!

Another big problem is the DA's yacking and text messaging, and not paying attention to driving!

Yes, Texas is a wonderful state! And it would be much better if we could keep the Yankees in Yankee land and out of Texas!

I am not going to waste my time quoting anything, look it up yourself! That way you would have a greater appreciation of the truth and facts! There is no law in Texas making it illegal to pass on the right, or on an improved shoulder! But again, common sense should prevail in any situation!

Flood...I'm not wanting to get into an argument here. The statement I first posted in green, and emboldened for this post, plus the "Ignorance" statement I made, concerning the driver with the dash cam, I stand behind.

Through-out Oregon you will see signs encouraging "slow vehicles" to drive on the shoulder of the roadway, while climbing certain hills. Those signs are on I-5 and I-84, as well as on US 97 between Kalamath Falls and Bend, on US 26 between Ontario and Burns, and between Burns and Lebanon Junction, as well on several other state and US highways in the Oregon.

Will OSP site a driver for not using the right shoulder? I'm fairly certain that they will, if you are blocking traffic, and others do what the COT truck did in the video, in an attempt to maintain their own speed.

Am I saying that what COT did was right? NO I am not. What COT did was unsafe and ignorant. I have a bigger problem with Mr. Videographer cursing when HE see's the COT truck passing him on the shoulder, then ACCELERATING while the COT truck is clearly beside him, traveling at a faster speed. You can clearly hear the Videographers engine increasing in rpm's in an attempt to box COT onto the shoulder at the summit and beyond...then Mr. Videographer chases COT down the road...simply because he himself is having a case of "road rage".

Once that driver saw COT passing on the shoulder, he should have either maintained his speed, and moved LEFT once the lane was clear, or decreased speed while holding his position in the right hand travel lane. Either of those options would have been the safe responce to COT passing on the shoulder. What Mr. Videographer did was un-safe, and had the potential to make an unsafe situation into a major accident.
Everything after the curse, was "Road Rage" and in Oregon that is illegal.

That is what I saw in the video.

I emboldened BD's "Smith Hill" portion, because that is where I believe the incident took place...on the North-bound lanes of I-5.

    Yah Right...

That so called driver, passing on the (shoulder) should have been behind the other passing truck,... in the (passing) lane....

And you defending such poor judgement only shows how "skilled" you are as a driver...

It's unbelievable how stupid some people are....

That was a stupid pass that saved the driver no time at all, Period.

If that is the norm, as you suggest, I think a little enforcement is needed

I bend the law all the time, but I do it without endangering others.

I can't believe anyone would defend this type of driving ??????

Driving like that around here would be very painful

What part of " It is legal to drive on the shoulder on certain grades " do you not understand ???

If the Oregon State Police cited anyone it would have been the videographer for impeding traffic.....
