Default I must correct myself about my trailer size ... (more pic's)

I've been saying that my Trailer was 10' wide (this is what I was told) ... well, I knew that couldn't be right, so I FINALLY remembered my tape measure, and went out and measured it, it's 102 inches wide, that's 8'6" ... I looked up the width of the Pelican on the Elgin website, and apparently from fender to fender, it also is supposed to be 102 inches, there's a 1.5" gap from the edge of the trailer to each tire (if it were 100% centered I used math to figure this one out!).

Anyhow, Truck weighs about 18,000 lbs, the Trailer (loaded with the sweeper) weighs about 22,000 lbs. so that's about 40,000 lbs (give or take) - no more of these rough estimates, I finally found a scale that I could use.

Tonight I'm gonna run my pelican across the scale, just to see what it weighs, so I can calculate and get a rough idea of the trailer weight itself.

    More pictures anyone?

Yes, I am an attention *****, thank you.

Dave, hope you don't leave that slack chain just hanging there. You tie it up or wrap it around the binder don't you?

    Here's some of my loads:

Oh, for sure I always tie up the slack in the chains - but my truck is actually broke down (notice the power steering fluid trails in the parking lot there) ...

I just loaded and chained down the sweeper (loosely) to help take up less space since they were nice enough to let us leave the truck/trailer/sweeper abandoned in their parking lot for the day.

I'm jealous of your Truck ... I notice you've got that little "wing" on the back ... every time I go to dump sand, or whatever else I sweep up, I've gotta take 5 minutes to clear the junk outta the pintle hitch.

I see you've got a loader on there, but what's that other item? It looks like a paver, or concrete former of some type ... Some of those concrete formers are REAL time savers - they lay, form, screed, float and broom all in one pass.

That "wing" doesn't help much with the pintle hook. The gravel and dirt and sand still accumulate in there. When not hooked to the trailer, I keep the hook closed to help keep it as clean as possible in there.

That other thing is a Curbmachine and it is not fun to pull on that trailer. Very tippy but it only weighs about 23K. Just a real top heavy 23K. Yes it does save time, can do a job of placing curb and gutter that would take 2 weeks by hand and do it in about 3 days. 1 day to set the stringline and 1-2 days to pour. I run the older model machine my brother runs the one pictured above. The one above is a monster compared to the older one. Nearly the same model line, new one is a Super B, older is a plain old B.

    I feel SOOOO stupid now.

Close the pintle hitch BEFORE dumping the box. DUH!!

I've no idea why I hadn't thought of that before.

    - Curb machine! WOW I was close with guessing what it was.

Sometime instead of working in the shop, my boss sends me out to move machines.

There ain't much room for error backing this scraper onto the trailer!
If you can't shift it smoothly, you shouldn't be driving it.

In addition to keeping the hitch closed, you could put a rubber flap over the hitch to keep foreign objects out.

Here is a photo of what we put on all of ours.

    Works like a charm. 8)
