Default Two things I never saw a driver do

Your experiences may vary, but I will say there are two things I have never seen any truck driver do:

    1) toss cigarette butts out the window

    2) change lanes without signaling

I don't know if I just don't get out much, but 25 years of 4-wheeler-'in and the 5 years I drove OTR I never saw either one!

Drivers I have seen have always signalled their lane changes and I have never seen one toss a butt out the window...like I said I am sure some do but I ain't never seen it.

Little things do mean alot, at least to me. I am proud of the bulk of the drivers out there still driving.

I do both them things. I will use my flasher if cars are around. But at 3am and im the only one on the road i dont use it. Just wearing it out. Plus there is no one there to see it.

Just curious, have you been to California lately, I probably see this on a daily basis.

I was in CA only because the military wanted me there. I live on the east coast and when I drove OTR I only went once, and that was 15 years ago!

CA seems to be the exceptions on ALOT of levels...

I'm with Mackman on this one. I was actually cut off by an end dump which changed lanes without signaling this morning.. of course, it was a Puryear truck (they're kinda like the Swift of the local construction industry here in the Raleigh area, albeit with faster trucks), but they're hardly guilty of being the only ones who do that.

I see drivers change lanes all the time with no signal and FYI....throwing a cigerette butt out the window in the state of Arizona is a ticketable offense no matter what time of the year. If you see someone throw one out, you can even call the local police and they will run the license plate and contact the person(s).

saw both of those happen today as i was jamming through new mexico. an o/o not only cut me off, he also chucked his f'ing cigarette butt out the window, and it bounced off my f'ing windshield. :x

it's all good, i suppose. 150 miles down the road, i saw his ass on the shoulder with his hood open, and a crapload of oil splattered on his windshield.

    karma is a bitch.

You must not pay very good attention to trucks when you drive. I see those constantly. It seems that most company drivers signal (MOST, not all) but those square nosed owner ops like to changed and not signal! Must be the billybigrigger mentality.

I find them to be a mixed bag. I'll see company drivers and O/Os both who dot every 'i' and cross every 't', just as I'll see both company drivers and O/Os who won't.

Seriously! lol. No one knows what a turn signal is. Crossing the street..waiting for this car that's driving ever so slowly...as minutes turn to hours it seems. they turn at the last minute. That really bugs me. I mean if you're that lazy to NOT turn your blinker on, get off the freaking road.

I don't smoke... and I know I wouldn't toss the butt if I did. I won't even toss an apple core out my window.

 ...of course...I do need to stop swallowing those apple cores...they are almost as bad at plugging up the works, as a chicken foot.

I made the habit of using my signals, long before I got my CDL.
But since I began driving pro...I learned to use my CB on occasion while passing another truck,
and I can see I'm being sized up in the mirror. I'll say, "don't worry driver, this won't hurt a bit."
...then I might hear "ya got me driver"... I'll advise back over the CB..."blink-blink >> flash-flash <> <>."

    ... :P being a pro, has it's privileges.

This happened to me just today on hwy. 31 in Indiana - driving northbound, north of 30, beforeI got to south bend, a trucker jumped into the right lane without signaling, and flicked his smoke out the window which hit my car!!

As soon as that happened, I thought about this thread. It was just a crappy grain truck, and the kid behind the wheel looked like he was scared to death to be driving that truck.

I've never seen cadavers fall off the back of a truck.

    Except in this movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ldt1kaOr0ZY

Do you only drive in simulator? For if you drove on the actual roadways of this country you would see all of this several times a day.

    I have!

Man, did that bring back memories. Way back in '85, when I was an assistant manager for a Pizza Hut, there was a hard crash at the intersection near our store. Someone blasted through a red light and hit a hearse hard enough to pop the back door and send the casket gurney on a ride down the street. The ironic thing was that the body was that of some guy that had been killed in an automobile accident a day or two before.

On a related Karma note, we were driving back from Des Moines on Monday and some twit in a BMW came flying by me, weaving in an out of traffic. I had seen Mario Andretti coming, so had slowed a bit and moved way over in the right lane to accomodate his stupidity. As he flew past, I noticed he had all the radar detection gear in the window and told my wife that since it was Memorial Day, they would have planes in the air and stop-watches on overpasses and he was done inside of 20 miles. Sure enough, about 15 minutes later we passed him on the shoulder with two troopers sandwiching him. I smiled and waved as we passed.

I'd say that is conclusive proof, that guy was the fault for the first accident , then too.
Let's just hope he didn't go to hell, now by accident.

,,,anna ways...two things I've never seen a Driver do...are wear a cape or tights. Recruiters though??? ....wouldn't surprise me.

    zing :P
