Default Good news from Double L

Alright I know it's been awhile since I posted but I got great news. I just found out Peterbilt of St. Louis will hire me when I turn 18 this summer for a parts guy making $9.00-$10.00 an hour delivering parts but I think there is a porter position and that guy goes and picks up trucks and is pretty much a mechanic helper. I was offered the parts guy postion but I'd really want to do the porter position for the mechanic part of it cause I think if you have a year of mechanic experience it counts towards ASE certification but I'm not sure I got to double check that. But anyway they said they would pretty much help me get my CDL and on top of that I'll get benefits such as 6 holidays off per year, vacations, medical dental and life insurance, supplemental, additional life, disability, and vision, 401K, direct deposit, uniforms are free, jury duty, and funeral leave. I really hope I get the porter position but if now I'll settle for part delivery guy. I'm pretty excited and how many 18 year olds you know with benefits like this? 8) Wish me luck guys! I came to the decision I rather be a diesel mechanic for my career instead of driving trucks. I think the only truck driving I want to do is picking up trucks and etc.

Congratulations LL! Let us know how it goes. If I was to ever be a mechanic I would want to be one at a dealership. You get to see and play with those brand new trucks first!

I was going to go to a diesel tech school but if I can get the porter position I'm gonna do that for two years and then take the ASE test. I still plan on using my scholarship for a bachelors degree in business and then after that I'll either open up my own diesel shop or start my own trucking company. I haven't decided which yet, I love getting my hands dirty and I love driving! I will keep you all updated when I start. I just saved myself money on diesel tech school! 8) God certainly has blessed me!

I found out today I can do the porter position! I guess this topic won't get updated until July 14th, 2008. That is a long time to wait!

Congratulations. I checked their address. It seems that your commute will not be too bad. What will you be driving to work?

89 Ford F150, 5 spd manual, but I got plans to make it more fuel efficient by adding an air intake on it and a k&n air filter.

Congrats Double L. Man, I would have a heart attack, working for Pete.

Speaking of... I'd like some shirts, hats, and some red ovals. :P
    Sounds like a sweet deal.

Thank you all! I feel with getting the job is I'll gain knowledge about the new emission engines and I can share my information with you all! I should start a blog or something whenever I get the job since I'll be a truck driver/diesel mechanic.

Got more good news. Maybe I'll have a job driving a truck with a company that is a few miles up the road from me. The company is Midwest Sanitary Service Inc. They are an all Mack fleet with rolloff straight trucks and rolloff road tractor trailers. The straight trucks are mostly Mack Granite's with a few R model offset cabs. The road tractors are a few Mack Visions 00-03 but mostly CH613's the oldest I seen was maybe a early-mid 90's CH613. They offer a co-op program and most of them worked in the shop and I'd be the first to be a driver if I get hired down there and they are looking for 2 drivers. I'm keeping my hopes up and remaining optimistic. I put in application already and waiting to hear from them!
