Default Trucks, trains and frozen pizzas don't mix

MARYSVILLE, WA – State Avenue was reopened at 2 a.m. today and train traffic was back on schedule through Marysville.

The road was shut down just before 6 a.m. Monday after a freight train collided with a semi-truck loaded with frozen pizzas and cheesecakes. Three engines and one boxcar were derailed and the semi-truck was demolished.

No one was seriously hurt in the collision.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The engineer applied the emergency brakes and sounded the horn but was unable to stop for the semi-truck that was straddling the railroad tracks.

    free pizza and cheesecake!

reminds me of when a truck driver rolled his beer load in fresno a few years ago. it was on the news and they mentioned that if you're at least 21 years old, come out and take all the free beer you want. the fresno police department was only there to check id's and to make sure no fights occurred.

Same here. However I do not want to be his INSURANCE carrier when they get that bill for the clean up of the wreck and the repair fo those locomotives. Considering a Dash-9 the type involved goes for 1.25 million a copy and 4 were derailed and damaged all requiring shop time OUCH.

I notice the hood is up on the truck (could have been caused by the crash, but I doubt it.)

Was the truck stalled?? Do you have a link to this story?

Might have been a small fire or the impact knocked it open. It looks like the truck took a pretty good impact. Here's another story from the Seattle Times.

The crew of a freight train blasted the horn and hit the emergency brake but couldn't stop in time to avoid hitting a semi-truck at a crossing near Marysville on Monday morning, sending the truck driver and the train engineer to a hospital with minor injuries, railway officials said.

The crash, which happened about 5:45 a.m. at the 13100 block of State Avenue, split open the truck, which was hauling frozen pizzas and cake, and derailed three locomotive engines and a boxcar, railway officials said.

The train was traveling at about 49 mph and was carrying three loads of general freight from Pasco to Vancouver, B.C., said Gus Melonas, BNSF Railway spokesman.

There were no hazardous materials on board. Most of the train cars were empty.

The crossing had a stop sign and was equipped with other warning signs, but there were no gates or flashing lights, Melonas said.

Amtrak passengers were to be bused around the accident en route to Bellingham and Canada, he said. The track was expected to reopen at 3 a.m. today, Melonas said.

Traffic on State Avenue was rerouted to 136th Street Northeast and 116th Street Northeast, said Lt. Jeff Goldman with the Marysville Police Department said.
