    Default IS IT TRUE?

I have read elsewhere that about 10 different keys will open any truck.
I read that a driver was robbed in the middle of night while sleeping. (heavy sleeper I guess)

If that is true that all a person would need to do is look at the model of your truck and have a ring of 5-10 keys to get in, that would be a safety issue.

    Info.?
    Thoughts?

not sure about k/w, pb, or international, i know it holds true for the older freightshakers, I think the newer ones have changed that but since I've never had an 08 I can't tell you. as far as the volvos, no. the keys are laser cut.

The Volvo keys are laser cut, but there's still a chance that someone else out there (esp with your company) will have the same key. Our company just bought 3 2005 Volvo's from Knight. All three have the same key. The same happened with our previous purchase of 4 Columbia's from NFI - all 4 use the same key.

The older tumblers are the easiest, and as mentioned, a good thief could fiddle through a handful of keys and find one that works.

I've lost my gas cap key, and tried a number of spare keys and found one that works.

I locked myself out of my crown vic police interceptor, which had a good lock set, and jimmy barred it open.
Tow truck drivers are pretty good and opening a locked vehicle.

Any good lockpicker will be inside any vehicle within seconds. Laser cut or not, they can get in by going and getting the same cut key from the dealer if they know the right people. Who needs a key or pick when you can simply knock the window out and be in just as quick??

At one time a Peterbilt dealer told me that for petes there were only six keys.

some fleets have the same key for the entire fleet so there are alot of trucks out there that can be opened with one key. all of the Freightliners we have at Barr Nunn have the same key.

About 2 years ago I was renting a Freightliner and locked my keys inside in OKC. My GMC Envoy key fit the lock and opened the door!

My '07 Pete has remote keyless entry, so a "key" is a non-issue. And the ignition key has a computer chip in it so if it is not the correct key it will not start...passive theft resistance thay call it....over 100 million combinations, so I don't think I have to worry too much!

Those keyless entry locks can be hacked. Some are easier than others...but still the easiest way is to simply snap the glass with a "glass breaker tool."

"By listening in on the wireless “conversation” between a car and its key, the researchers found they could crack the code that keeps the communication secret. Then they were able to emulate the electronic key and trick the car into unlocking itself.

Nearly all cars with remote keyless entry use an encryption system called KeeLoq. It was developed during the 1980s and purchased by Microchip Technology Inc. in the 1990s. Like all encryption systems, KeeLoq scrambles messages so they can't be read by anyone who intercepts them. Only someone -- or something -- with the appropriate deciphering key can unscramble the message."

In a breaking news flash, several Barr Nunn drivers have reported burglaries today. Police have no idea where to begin, but some are suggesting it may be an inside job.
