Another driver in a big hurry

I was on my way to Indiana last week when this guy passed me at about 75 or 80 in the rain, this is what I saw on the way back. getting in big hurry just doesnt pay

I'm not surprised ! I saw a driver on 90 on the toll road just before U get to Ohio driving at a hi rate of speed on the snow lost control & sitti'n in the middle of the road stuck up to the axles. He's sitting there smoking a ciggy with the map light on with the keyboard on his lap. acting like nothing even happened out of the ordinary.If you know what I mean :!:

So that was the same truck that blew past you Fredog? If so, then good, he got what he deserved for driving like an idiot. Tired of the BBR's who are O/O's that hang out into the left lane around here to pass an entire line of both cars and trucks. The line is already doing 70-75 and they hang it out there anyways. Cops can't do anything unless they actually see them doing it, so ain't worth calling them and since they are O/O's ain't worth calling their company, they will just move on to the next one.

As most probably know the Buckeye just had 2days of some of the worst snowfall. I decided to "hang it up" friday afternoon in Columbus as the weather was moving in (stayed in our "drop yard"). Got up early the next morning as the second system was moving in and headed out. Figured little or no traffic would be just slow going. Interstates where basically untouched by the road crews. The lanes where indistigusable, usually limited to a single "lane" that was beatin down by the traffic. Prevailing flow of traffic was about 30-35mph. Single file.
Here comes BBR from Falcon literally "plowing" his own lane around the single file traffic, at about 60mph. Im watching him in my mirror. Im over as far as I can get in my single lane, he almost clipped his mirror and fendor on my trailer as he passed. Then proceeded to chew me out for not being able to drive on the snow/sleet/ice covered road.
Here is an image of the roads that day. Never did see him again, since we were listening to the CB and communicating to one another 76 through Akron was "Jammed" up due to jacknife. (Dont think it was him) We went around. We think he got stuck in the backup.

That reminds me of I-81 in PA last year.

I'm afraid that not all the guys you see off the road like that have been speeding. Back when Schneider only did 57 mph, I got to see several of them in the median and in the ditch. In most cases, I'm more inclined to believe it's a lack of skill and a lack of understanding the conditions they're driving on. Many times too, if you stop to see that he's OK, you'll also find that he had his differentials locked in when it happened.

I've seen guys do 180s and slide off into the ditch or median at 25 mph, and I've done a complete 360 in the middle of a bridge at 15 mph... And, that's with 18 wheels. I've seen Werner with a flatbed and a low load nearly get taken off a slippery road when he was only doing about 30 mph because of a gust in the cross wind. If you actually saw him doing that speed, then later saw him off the road, I'd say he got what he deserved.

Another serious problem is when trucks bunch up in a "RAT-PACK" in bad weather. If the lead truck loses it, the rest slide into him and you have a major pile-up. The worse the weather is, the more space you want to leave between trucks. Give yourself room to be able to stop before you get involved yourself.

Saw a few Locals and Bears, spun out also.
I loaded friday afternoon in Columbus, close to rush hour. No way was I going to try and head out of town then. My drop yard was only 10miles from my pickup. (Didnt even want to try a truckstop). I hid in the drop yard till about 0600 saturday morning, and started the Looonnng Trek out of Ohio, during round 2 of the storm, very few vehicles were on the road. There was a few of use driver that were muddling along together. Single file with lots of following distance, and a few 4wheels acting stupid, and the 1 Falcon driver acting real stupid.

Been through NC when the roads were bad, and the salt-shakers were sitting under the overpasses, afraid to move for that very same reason.

You KNOW the roads are bad when the salt-shakers can't make it.

i got yelled at by a bunch of maverick drivers during the storm that hit idaho and oregon in early december all because i wasn't going over 50mph on the icy roadways. i was going at a steady 30 - 35mph the whole way. i saw a few of those suspected meth heads in the ditch 100 miles ahead of where the majority hollered at me, "swift, you NEED TA SPEED UP!" i'm almost convinced that the majority of bull haulers are meth heads. they drive like it.

Shoulda told'em that your truck was governed to only go that fast, and you would appreciate a push.

I mean, they should have known by the name on the truck that you weren't going to get going too fast anyways and no that's not a knock on you driving for Swift.

eh, i only had 8,000lbs in the trailer. i became sideways from a gust of wind earlier that morning near la grande, oregon. i was going 20mph at that point and couldn't find a safe spot to get the hell off the road. at any rate, i made it to where i was heading without having an accident. i can't say the same for some of those mavericks who ended up off the side of the road, rolled over, and/or jack-knifed.
