Go back a few pages. Fozzy AND Bunny have provided links. In fact, I suggest you read this entire thread. I can't "do" video on my current computer, but I had the opportunity last week to be in a motel that had broadband. The "video" or "album" that Fozzy posted a link to was very moving! I am so happy I got to see it!

That FAST, eh?? Your snail can outrun my tectonic plates!

Go to page 2. About halfway down, Greg has a pic of Micheal in his post!

And, PLEASE..... if you should ever choose to use his name..... notice the correct spelling. I don't know why they chose to spell it that way, but I RESPECT their decision, and I wouldn't want to offend them by missing even ONE minor detail! A MAN has a right to be honored and buried with the NAME his parents gave him!

[my apologies Fozzy and Bunny for getting in the way of this thread.]

No problem.. I have been trying to stay out of the way myself. It's rather easy to get involved in this one. We are thankful for the support from the folks here and everywhere. People checking in on us regularly. We are OK.. but we don't really want to be nor will any time soon.

FYI and I do not know if I mentioned this elsewhere, but my son was promoted to SP4, awarded the Bronze star, Purple Heart and several other medals at the funeral. I will keep his C.I.B. close and cherish it. He earned every bit of this and was a craftsman in his field. I have had letters from many people who knew and served with him.

I "traded" him my measly old tarnished EIB for his CIB. In hindsight was probably a lousy trade.. but I had to give him something. It meant a lot to me at the time.

Can't believe that I am just now finding out about this. It just isn't right that something like this has to happen to an obviously great kid (excuse me, MAN). Things like this just really piss me off sometimes. Maybe not an appropriate reaction but it's the way I feel. Fozzy, you have lost a son but having served in the same unit (slightly different time period) as your son I feel that I have lost a brother. Be strong, be proud.

Fozzy I had Pmed you to let you know I just found out.. Again I am so sorry. I lost one of my sons at a young age, so I can honestly say I know how you feel.

There is nothing I can say, nor express in a time like this. All I can say is if your son was anything like you. Then I have the uttermost Respect for him, Not just because he died for me, and everyone else. But because through the past 3 to 4 years in all our arguments and debates, you treated me with Respect, even when it was heated.. And that my Friend is Carachter.

Bunny-- I do not know you, I have only had one little chat with you. My condolences to you and Fozzy.

If I had known this was here, I woulda responded sooner. I found out by reading the mexican flag thread the one that got locked.

Greater love has no man, than to lay down his life for his friends.

WOW! I haven't been real active here the past few months and when I found this thread I was devastated!

I can only imagine what Fozzy and Bunny have gone through and what they will continue to go through. I've lost several close friends and family, but I doubt it would be anything like losing a child. I won't say I understand because I'm sure I probably can't relate, but I definitely do appreciate what you and your family are going through right now.

I watched the video done by Pokey's best friend and I thought that was fantastic. At times I laughed and I'm not afraid to admit, at times I cried. It is a true testament to both Fozzy and Bunny to have raised such an honorable and admirable young man. My hat goes off to you. Being the father to three youngs boys, I know I will give them a big hug as soon as they get home.

You all will be in our prayers. God bless you and God bless Pokey!

    Dear Fozzy & Bunny,

I am so sorry for your loss. Your son has made the ultimate sacrifice for his courntry and I know you are very proud of him. I have a son who has served in Iraq also and I display the yellow ribbons on my house and my truck proudly. I am not home that often to check my email, but feel free to contact me via email if you need to talk.

Thanks. And we welcome your involvement. [and since you have, I'd like to go further.]

I did some googling, and found the site of the Freedom Riders. that was very moving, as well!

I don't know if you mentioned it, either. But, I noticed the change in your sigline. If you have any of the "citations to accompany the medal of..." I wish you'd post them. Would love to read them.

I "traded" him my measly old tarnished EIB for his CIB. In hindsight was probably a lousy trade.. but I had to give him something. It meant a lot to me at the time.
Okay, please forgive my Air Force ignorance here. EIB?? CIB??? I know you gave him what he NEEDED, Foz! Love, freedom and a FINE example!

Question: In that video compilation..... was that YOU with him in one of those pictures? The guy with the sandy blonde hair and the "thinline" beard? A green shirt (I think it was?)

I have been there a few times, I think my wife has actually posted there. There were almost 200 of the riders there on the day we brought Pokey home. The ride from the airport to the chapel was pretty tough. From the lone farmer standing in the middle of his field with his hat in hand to the throngs of people who lined the main drag as we came through town. We were well supported that day.

I may do that sometime, right now there are so many things that we are behind on that it is just not easy to figure out just what will cause me to get extremely down. I had to go to the cemetery the other day to sign off on the grave marker.. that was very hard for me to do.. I then visited my sons grave.. I honestly was not ready for that and paid a heavy emotional barrage there.

I "traded" him my measly old tarnished EIB for his CIB. In hindsight was probably a lousy trade.. but I had to give him something. It meant a lot to me at the time.

I was both blessed and cursed to have gone through some of the toughest training the Army had and was in the Infantry. One of the badges that is pretty sought after is the Expert Infantry Badge. it is a royal pain in the butt to pass and be awarded this badge. But no one kids themselves, the CIB (Combat Infantry Badge) is the sign that an infantryman has been tested in combat. I won the EIB when I was in, My son earned the CIB and I am damn proud of that fact.

Question: In that video compilation..... was that YOU with him in one of those pictures? The guy with the sandy blonde hair and the "thinline" beard? A green shirt (I think it was?)
Hmm.. no beard.. But I think I'm in there somewhere. The sandy blond hair fits if sandy means gray. There is a great picture of my sons and I at a campfire in one of the tributes.. I love that picture..

Okay, thanks Fozzy for the explanation. I totally understand! I wore "combat wings" while flying reconnaissance aircraft during so called "peacetime." I went through "extensive" survival TRAINING, and "jump school" to get them. But, we had a crew who were shot down, who actually DESERVED them!

Although I believe that "those who stand READY to fight," are Patriots as well... as you say.... WE do not kid ourselves! There is no test like combat. It is the hope of ALL of our military, that they should NEVER have to prove their metal... but, the PRIDE of us all... that we are ready and able to DO so!

I think Pokey understood the trade you made, and the respect and honor intended by it! He was as proud of YOU, as you were of HIM! And he took that pride into his last battle.

There are no questions left unanswered, nor things left unsaid! He is at peace and rest... and you should be as well. You have BOTH done your duty. And a FREE Nation thanks you, and honors you!

The "measure" of a life is not in its longevity... but in its purpose and impact. You've said as much about Pokey.... in better words than I can ever pen. And so I leave it to you, if you want.... to tell us MORE about him. There's not ONE here who wouldn't like to know him better.

Welcome to CAD.. Thank you for your service to our country. If you wore a uniform you are family to Fozzy and I. Our son lives on in us and although we will mourn him for the rest of our lives we also celebrate him. He was a great son, man, friend and soldier.
