Default Dallas rush hour traffic is horrible!

Well my mom, my 15-year-old daughter and I ventured to Bastrop, Texas (near Austin) to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with my other daughter and two grandsons. The 11-hour journey took us through Dallas and as fate would have it we got there about 4:30 p.m. last Tuesday. I've never experienced as big a traffic mess (even when I was driving a big truck) as there was in Dallas. Trying to find I-35E to Waco and Austin was a challenge in itself. Anybody out there know of a bigger mess at rush hour than we experienced in Dallas? 8)

Ah man. Midnight Flyer, that place is crazy when it's not rush hour. :P

There isnt really an easy way of getting through the Metromess. Any highway you take is gonna be full of idiots. :P
When I was a kid, we would spend some time during the Hollidays in Fort Worth, and then go to Fort Smith. We used to take highway 69 north of Fort worth, and go all the way up on highway 69 to I-40 in Checotah. It didnt take that long to make the drive.
Now days, I think that highway 69/75 is just as bad as anything else in Dallas.

Midnight Flyer, I know a good way of getting through Dallas/Ft Worh. Put a number on the side of your car, and git r done. :P

You need to take into account you were traveling through there not only at rush hour but also during a holiday. It was a double whammy. I am sure most large cities were a huge mess during that time.

I once had to go through Chicago coming out of Wisconsin and heading home on Christmas eve. I hit the windy at 5:30 and what normally would have taken me around 2 hours to get through there at rush hour took me 4 1/2.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

Yeah Jackrabbit, I know what I'd do: Get a black Chevy Monte Carlo with some "Goodwrench Service Plus" stickers on the hood and #3 on the side like The Man! 8)

I know it can be a nightmare as well as test your road rage ... glad to see you made it through alive ...... I found the best thing for me to do is go straight through Dallas ...... it's less busy than the loop. ... another driver suggested I try it once and sure nuff ..... he was right :!:

I think worse than Dallas itself is I-35E, between I-635 and Denton. There is so much more traffic now that I avoid that area any way I can. Last night I went ahead and traveled 45 miles out of route, instead of up 45, across Woodall Rogers and North on 35E, I took 287 all the way to I-44 to go to Oklahoma City. Probably saved me 2 hours!! Plus, I got to sleep in my own bed last night (hm, wonder if the saved time had anything to do with it?)

Kyle of Lochalsh can be a bugger around tea time. Last time I was there I got stuck behind 3 cars, a bus and a tractor

Once took me 1 1/2 hours to get from Plano to Carrollton which is what? Something like 30 miles away?

Then on 9/12/01 I went from Carrollton heading south to Laredo and zipped right through downtown and there was hardly a car on the road
