Default What Irks You The Most?

I'm still in my first year but I'm seeing a pattern that is a wee bit annoying. Maybe it's me. But I already see why so many drivers park it at night rather than continue running.

Headlights Glarring in the West Coast mirror.
Worse yet, is when another trucker decides to put his/her headlights in your mirror and keep them there.... like they are so lonely they want to watch how you'll react.

The worse part is that when these lonely hearts pull into truck stops, they most often refuse to speak to anyone.

Oh ... and all the waving. THIS IS A DANGEROUS JOB. Forget all the waving as you pass by ... just get the hell safely up the road.

If feels like we Americans are so used to sitting infront of T.V. screens, movie screens, and computer screens, that we've lost the ability to know the difference between a windshield and a T.V. screen.

No wonder this is the number one killer career for its employees. [/b]
People who can't create love, create drama.

Quit the crap and just drive.

What's wrong with waving? And anyway, they don't wave in city traffic.

I passed a driver once with his left foot up on the dash, grinning like a cheshire cat and waving like a flag in a stiff breeze.

Musta had one to many starbucks.

Edit: One thing that doesn't really irk me but I think is strange: why do 4 wheelers come down the on ramp at 50 mph? Cripes man, you're supposed to be going road speed at the end of the ramp.

Then they pull onto the highway and continue to do 50mph for about a half mile before they speed up and zip away.

    Just odd.

BTW, you don't get that behavior in a major city, those guys are cookin' at the end of that ramp.

    What irks me the most..........

Truckers that lie, not just tell entertaining trucker story's (everyone loves a great trucking story even if it blown out of proportion) but flat out tell you BS that you know is 100% lie. The reason why it irks me is that they think I am stupid enough to believe them or do they think I'm that gullible?

I can think of two different drivers right off the top of my head.

1). I met a JB Hunt driver that claimed to be the only driver in the company fleet that is allowed to run an ungoverned truck. The reason, because he tested so well at orientation.

2). I met a Roadway driver that claimed his wife was the head of the FBI in Nashville, TN. She made over 300k a year and worked in special operations and had access to very secret information, the same information that the president gets everyday. He just drives truck for something to do and he could care less to what secret information his wife really knew.

But I am polite about it and just nod my head and say "wow, thats pretty cool" and politely tell them I need to make a phone call and it was nice talking to them. Everyone has had to have ran into guys like these or maybe it's just me?

    So many things.

    Where do I start?

Right. By popping the top on another ice cold beer. Screw it. I don't need to get riled up about my work week. My work week is done, and I can forget alllll about it for a couple of days.

I hate drivers who lie. I ran into 7 million of them just this week, and not ONE of them waved!

You're right, that guy is a liar, it's actually my wife that heads the FBI in Nashville. The whole deal's so hush/hush that I don't even know her real name. I was early on instructed to refer to her only as "tinkerbell".

I can't go into a lot of detail but she says that Roadway driver's wife is a liar who doesn't make close to 300k a year. Anyway, she was outed by the Bush team years ago and is prettly much out of the agency and is now working on a book deal.

And me? I just drive a truck for entertainment, nothin' I really need to do.

But enough about me, tell us a little bit about yourself.

Not actually a semi driver but when husband took me on my first trip I waved a lot. Mostly because it was so cool being up so high. Felt like you are above everyone and could see so far ahead. I loved it, no one blocked my view so when another truck passed I waved. Sorry.

Oh feel free to disregard my post as I am not a super driver or a wanabie. Trip was just eight hours and my butt hurt so bad that I need a pillow just to get home, no thanks. Hats off to all of you

The thing they really gets me at times is the people who stop 90ft from a redlight. Example..Light turns Red, they Slam on there brakes. but theres a 90ft gap between them and the crosswalk section, It's like Hello?!?! can you move up? then when they realize how far back they are..they move foward. Those people really irk me.

Or the people who think..Oh Just because I have a blinker on, I can go over with no problem. Or the idiot who thinks I have a blinker on, But won't move over, after you leave a pretty big gap for them.

Or how about the guy who is doing 35mph on a 50mph road, you pass them on the right, then they realize everyone is passing them and they speed up.

But what can I say I love driving, so I can't really complain, leave your space and it's all good =)

That's a good irk. Speed hypocrites. The most annoying species of speed hypocrite is the "cautious" driver running 45 mph in a 55 on a country road, who keeps doing 45 mph right through the middle of the 25 mph zone in town, without missing a beat.

When JB decides to pass Swift. It always takes half an hour.
When I get old, I move north and drive slow in the fast lane.

How about when we are pulling hills, part way up a hill doing 20-30 below the speed limit, driver in back figures he can out pull driver in front by 1-2 mph, jumps out in passing lane blocking all trucks that can pull the hill and all the 4wheelers. Finally crest the top and they are neck and neck now its a down hill side by side high speed race to see who gets to the bottom first.

Also tailgating BBR's, this happens WAY to often whether they tailgate other big trucks or 4wheels, cant figure the logic, it never works. Or they manage to "push" the hapless 4wheel into changing lanes right in front of me, putting me in a tailgating position.
(Anybody see the 2 big trucks yesterday, westbound side I80 at the 161 in the Keystone. Truck in back ran the nose up to the firewall clean under the trailer of the truck that was in front.)

Then there is the construction zone, lose a lane rolling road blocks, two BBRs blocking traffic, thinking they are doing a favor, would make more sense if we just got in to correct lane well in advance, and left sufficient spacing to allow the resistent 4wheels(and the renegade BBR's) to merge. Blocking the traffic only enhances the "negative" image we continue to give ourselves.

Phew!!!, that feels a little better, just had to get that off my chest. (Hey, you guys asked)

I hated Driving in Pencilvania "I know I spelled it wrong"
On the edge of sleep, I heard voices behind the door
The known and the nameless, familiar and faceless
My angels and my demons at war'

    At war...

'Which one will lose depends on what I choose
Or maybe which voice I ignore...'

    Wilderness of mirrors
    Streets of cold desire
    My precious sense of honor
Just a shield of rusty wire
    I hold against the chaos
And the cross of holy fire

    Wilderness of mirrors
    So easy to deceive
    My precious sense of rightness
    Is sometimes so naive
    So that which I imagine
    Is that which I believe
    RUSH
