I kinda believe Snopes possible explaination for the "incident". I cannot see how the truck could have hit the slope at 55mph or more without damaging the tractor, especially with the angle of that slope. And then to get the whole tractor on top of the berm (sp) and onto the tracks, he would have had to be airborne for a moment to get the entire tractor on the tracks. no damage to the tractor.
Also, no tracks leading up to the slope, expect for the tow trucks.
But Im just playing detective and guessing.
I just took a closer look at the pictures, There is some very serious hood and fender damage to the tractor, (maybe he did try and drive it up the slope), It would be interesting to know what really happened.
Maybe Google the newspapers for the Manitoba area for March 2007

Not meaning to hijack the thread here, but I saw your tag line announcing your son's upcoming deployment.
There are times when we agree, and then there are times when we don't. That's okay, it would get pretty dull pretty quickly if everyone agreed on everything all of the time.
One thing that I hope all of us can agree to do will be to keep your son in our prayers, intentions, and meditations.

I have added him to my list!! Hopefully, the day will come when all of this will be behind us.
Peace,
Bill
Well, thank you very much... This will be a trying time for the entire family. I support what he is doing and why he is doing it and of course (from what I post here and everywhere else) I support the mission. He is with a fine bunch and he is growing in the job to be a heck of a leader. We all hope everything works out for him and his teammates. Time will tell and fate is what it is.
My thoughts are with you as well, Fozzy. If he has to be going it's good that he is going with the best. The 101st was top notch when I was with them in the 70's and I'm sure it's only gotten better with time. Hope everything turns out well.
BTW what is his MOS?
I'm willing to die to protect my Right to Bear Arms.
Are you willing to die to take them away from me?
Well, like his father.. he qualified for anything yet volunteered to go into the 11B stuff. I tried to get him to get some training in something else and then go to combat arms, but of course, he's too much like me and has been wanting to do this from the time he was a pup. I am VERY proud of him. He is my hero for knowing about what was coming and doing it anyway.Originally Posted by Karnajj
I went to Benning for his graduation and that was pretty weird, It seemed like such a short time ago, I was there. It was really special seeing my kid "turn blue" and then graduate into the club. I got to put the blue cord on his shoulder myself.
He is planning on going to Ranger school when he gets back from Iraq.. he's already passed pre-Ranger. Dang! I've hijacked my own thread!
I was 11C myself. 12/15/76 graduation day Ft. Benning, I remeber it like it was yesterday.Originally Posted by Fozzy

Hey Fozzy, even though I'm a noob around here give your best to your son. He's headed out on the day of my 43rd birthday.

Hi mom
Have you ever been back to Benning? It's really hard to believe that I was once that young. I took the road trip with an old Army buddy who I served with and who was at Benning the same time. It was surreal! Ranger Joes is still there as well as the crummy car lots and tattoo parlors. we visited the jump towers. I tried to find the old Harmony Church barracks, but they have all been leveled and only one was saved, its at the infantry museum. It was awesome! We stopped and looked at the Darby Queen...sheesh, It just made me feel older!Originally Posted by Karnajj

I too will keep your son in my thoughts and I will pray for his safe return. Please keep us posted.
It's funny how all of our lives are connected in some way. I was F13 (MOS) but I was attached to the 197th at Benning early 80's. Spent 18 months on Sand Hill.
As far as the hijacking goes...... I think this one can slide :P
Find something you like to do, be the best at it you can be, the money will come.
Ditto from Me-When I went over it was harder on friends and family than it was with me.Originally Posted by Fozzy
I "Assume" He's with the 101st or the Big Red 1"? Used to run their Sector in Baghdad and they did an Outstanding Job.
I'm sure he got some basic Linguist class but tell him this one from me that they probably didn't Teach.
I'm spelling it wrong I'm sure but it's pronounced Makko Floose(Means no money) for use when the Iraqi's try to sell you something :P
Fozzy...safe wishes from me as well. Tho I wasn't in the military, the fact I'm living a free life is because of the what he (and all you veterans) is willing to give. Thanks!
Fozzy, good luck to your son and pray he stays safe over there.
To the topic, the driver was a fool to start with if he did this on purpose. He hit the hill at an angle instead of straight on, it's a wonder he didn't turn over at the bottom. I'm thinking he fell asleep or he really was a fool.

Karn...It is entirely possible you had my eldest brother as one of your trainers at Benning. He was a Master Sergeant posted at Benning from June of 75 through June of 77. He was one of the guy's who taught survival training. He left Benning for a posting with a special unit working out of Fort Mead, retired as a Command Master Sergeant Major in 90.Originally Posted by Karnajj
