    Default Another grocery strike pending

From central to southern california the union store workers are voting to strike or not. If they do strike no one wins. Total lost for all three chain stores last time was $2 billion. Let's hope they don't do this all over again. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-f...lines-business

If the union has to strike to take care of their workers, then so be it. I'm sure the supermarkets are still going to make billions of dollars either way. Striking sucks, but it gets things done when it has to.

Another example of unions not caring about anybody but themselves.

Are you willing to die to take them away from me?

Eplain why it is in the union's best interests to strike? By the way, the people the union represents have to approve the strike by a vote. The union can't do that alone.

Unions often get a bad rap. But having worked for both union and non-union, I would pick union any day. Better pay, better benefits and better retirement.

I've been union and non-union also and it would be a very cold day in hell before I ever worked union again.

During the last strike a couple of years ago it went on for 5 months. The workers had it pretty bad financially, thier were a lot of home foreclosures and attempted suicides. The only people who benefitted were the strike replacement workers who made great money. I moved a lot of trailers and took a lot of verbal abuse. I don't think I have the heart to do it again. Even with all the money I could make.

Good thing I buy my groceries at anti-union Wal-mart. Personally, I find it funny if they do strike, that would just drive more people to Wal-mart for the groceries. In other words a strike by anti walmart unions would actually help walmart in the long run. As a Walmart shareholder, I say STRIKE!

I've worked both Union and Non-Union as well, and I wish I was at a Union shop right now. I have 10 years in with the Teamsters, and would like to get 10 more in so I'll end up with a full pension.

When retirement comes around, I guarantee most drivers won't have any other money coming in besides Social Security. This is sad, but true.

I plan on staying where I'm at, only because it's a great gig, but when we head up to Boise in a couple of years, I hope to find a union job to finish off my career.

    Same here.
You can take the driver out of the truck but you cant take the truck out of the driver.

^^I've heard unions have pretty good pensions. I've never worked union though so I have a pretty strong 401k going thru my employer. If Fred Thompson say's he can really fix the social security problem though then I'm voting for him.

The company will hire temporary employees or go through a temp agency. Some of the workers will cross the picket line too.

I made the delivery for the union driver. I was a temp. He left his truck on the street and I backed it in. Good money, but a lot of harassment.
