Century series and columbia drivers, antena question for ya

I have a suspision that I am not getting a good ground on my antena. I have the antena mounted to the mirror support using a standard antena mount. I started doing this becasue I thought the factory mounting location and or coax was crap. Is there a better place to mount it or, is there a great place to get a good ground without too much effort? I was wondering if behind the cab on the fairing grab bar might be a good or better idea.

Well, if you have a standard mount on the mirror bracket, and good coax, it should work for ya. A lot of cowhaulers like to run those long whips on their catwalk, as well as their antennas on their mirror mounts. I dont know how well that works, though.

We have 9200i Internationals. Our mirrors have those big plastic covers on the front of the mirror. The antenna mount is right where the plastic cover mounts to the mirror. It's a pain in the foot to take off those plastic covers if you need to. Our radios work good, with the way the antenna mount, and stuff is set up. We do, however have one truck that I dont think is grounded good. You adjust the mirrors with the joystick on the dash, and there is a buzzing hum in the CB external speaker. :shock:

I do see a lot of um...aerodynamic trucks that have antennas on the top sides of the sleeper. I dont know how well those work. Seems like to me, they would get some interference.

Stop at a Cb shop some time and pick up a an antenna ground strap, and ask the tech the best way to use it.

Your other option is to get a No ground antenna. Wilson makes one that works well.

you are going to need to run a ground wire back to your radio. at my company everybody who put their own antenna on their truck had to do this we have both columbia's and century's
