Default Swing kits? what do they do, and other mods??

i see alot of talk about swing kits for cb's is it worth it? does it really do anything??

i've been lurking on cbradiotalk but havent found any solid answers. i want a good radio with atleast 10-15 mile range. looking into a cobra 29 and do a P&T on it.

i have heard that the ones with weathter channels arent the best to tune is this true?

    Just drive the truck.
No one wants to hear you from 15 miles away.
If you want to talk long distance get yourself a ham license.

Think about what you just said.

You wanna drive by the info you gather from a CB.

If I yelled ..."EJECT-EJECT-EJECT!!!!"...would you take the first off ramp? :? :P

my rig isnt governed, i would prefer to know if it is right or left lane closed cause cars wont let you in most of the time.

i was looking at the Gen Lee for $189 new with a basic P&T, but i could get more out of a cobra 29. i dont plan on chattin with guys across the state.

I run line haul out in west Texas. Not hardly any traffic, other than the LTL line haul guys.

There are a couple of line haul guys that we talk to that have big radios. Those guys can get out a long way. That's cool being able to talk to someone for 15 minutes, after you met them, going the other way. That's fine, and dandy when there isnt anyone around. When I get to Lubbock, I usually turn my radio off. There are guys out there with those big radios, and all they do, is walk on everyone. That's just pointless.

If you want a big radio, use it when you need to, or when there isnt a whole lot of other traffic. Being in a big city, or a major interstate with a big radio is just being a jerk. All youre going to do, is just walk on top of everyone else, and make everyone mad. :P

kilog, have you never driven in REAL traffic before?? Turn your turn signal on and just move at a crawl(that is if everyone in front and around is moving that slow,) someone WILL let you in eventually. If your moving at a good clip, just pull back on the reigns and find a hole. Not everyone out there are jerks, the 4 wheelers do let you over, just have to be patient sometimes.

Getting a "big" radio won't let you hear from any farther away, it will just allow others to hear you say "bear by the exit ramp" 15 miles before they get to it, and wonder where the bear was.

Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
    Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

alright so i would be better off with a cobra 29 or a uniden 68? and get a P&T or just a high quality ant. and cable and mic.? cause i was thinkin about the wilson 5000 with the tri mag mount. i'm getting some mirror mounts for free. but i heard they arent the best for low SWR.

would a wilson 5000 mag mount be good or are they more for use with amps

What kind of truck are you driving that you can use a mag mount on, most OTR trucks these days are aluminum and fiberglass. I cannot even get a magnet to stick to the mirror bolts.

find an old midland 77-250 - factory swing built in. this old radio is 23 years old and still talks as far as those connex's with clearer modulation. 90% or better of your transmit and recieve is in the antenna and coax anyway - oh and make sure they are well grounded. Sometimes you need to run a 10 or 12 gauge wire down to the frame.

you bough a broke down truck that you ahve never driven and your concern is getting a CB that will tlak for 15 miles. not to sure on your priorities, but the cobra, uniden you mentioned will not do it, heck most radios won't without some xtra help just because of the noise. i would suggest talking to a REPUTABLE CB shop before you buy anything if you wnna talk that big. because if you buy the big radio and fail to install and set it up properly, you are going to burn it up. then you won't be tlking at all.
