Default MS Streets and Trips Question

I bought a laptop preloaded with this program. I have it mounted on a RAM computer stand in my truck. The problem I'm having is I can't figure out how to dim the brightness for night driving. I thought it had a night screen option but can't seem to find it. My screen is so bright my computer is useless at night. I can't believe MicroSoft would overlook such a basic need.

Can somebody help me with this. Does this program have a night screen option?

Ok, not quite as helpful as I'd hoped to be, but found this in surfing the web. Streets & Trips released the night screen option starting with the 2006 version of the software. However, can't seem to find a specific mention of how to switch to it other than "with a click of a button".

That said, found another possibility cruising around
Another solution may be to set the map background to a darker color by using the built-in drawing tools. Follow these steps:

Zoom out to see your route or even the whole world

Select Rectangle tool on the Drawing toolbar

Click and drag a rectangle on the map to cover an area larger than your route (you may even cover the whole world)

Click on the arrow beside Fill Color tool on the Drawing toolbar and select your desired color for your night view scheme (grey, blue, brown are nice choices)

Right-click the rectangle and select Order > Send Behind Roads

Ok so i lied here it is

    Choose a map style
On the View menu, click Map Style.
    Click one of the following:
    Road Map

Use this map style if you want a conventional road map with detailed information about roads, highways, towns, and cities.

    Terrain Map

Use this map style if you want your map to display roads, highways, towns, cities, and geographic terrain.

    Political Map

Use this map style if you want your map to display roads, highways, towns, cities, and major political boundaries.

    Road Map (Night)

Use this map style if you want a conventional road map that you can view in low light conditions, such as when using the driving guidance feature at night.

You can change the map style from the Navigation toolbar by selecting a different map style from the drop-down list. The name of the current map style appears in the list box.

You may also be able to dim the laptop's screen. On my laptop I can do this by holding down the "Fn" Key, and pressing the down arrow.

Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
    Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Now this is what this forum is all about. Truckers helping truckers. Thanks to all who contributed to helping me. The last post was easiest to follow. Its right there. I just had to be shown! Cool! Thanks. I only wish the entire screen would go night version instead of just the map. I think the border is still going to be awful bright at night. But, its better than what I had before.

    Thanks again.
