You know the old saying.....be careful what you wish for....you just might get it.

From reading both the article and the order itself it sounds like a response to both 9/11 and the hurricanes that have devastated the gulf coast and parts of the eastern seaboard.

The federal government has been strongly criticized by the public and the media for not working quickly enough in times of emergency. A big part of this is due to having to deal with state and local governments, which Katrina (sp) has shown us sometimes have their heads farther up their azzes than the feds do at times.

No where in the order does it state that the current President shall remain in office during a time of crisis until it has passed.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

    Dang :?
Bush is Hitler. Like, we've never heard that one before.

Worst mistake made in American histore was changing the voting requirements; used to be that you had to be a land owner. I think it should have stayed that way.

WOW!!! Finally another thread worthy of my time!! I want "IN" on this one!! But, please.... let's all try to be civil. Calling someone "incredibly stupid" is not a good start.

I read both the article and the order, too. ALL OF IT!! Did you read it ALL, Gator??

Perhaps the initial post was a bit "alarmist," but the article did a pretty good job of summarizing the Order.

So, the issue is, just WHAT is the order all about?

It COULD be a response to the total FAILURE of this administration in responding to Katrina, and certainly upholds its claims that it was the fault of the local government that Bush was sitting on the ranch playing his fiddle while people suffered and died....(I guess there were no COGS and COOPS and "designated" authorities to tell him what was happening!)

But, I'm afraid I see something much more to this order. I hope to be able to explain further, for those who really care to know, but to be honest, the underlying intent, and the overwhelming focus, seems to be on protecting the executive branch (which considers itself the sole repository of our "constitutional form of government" from the threat of REBELLION, should a catastrophe of a more widespread nature occur. For instance, nuclear attack or multiple terrorist attacks.

I think that, in light of the overwhelming polls showing American "no confidence" in this Administration, Bush is seriously concerned about the "domestic" threat as much as he is the "foreign."

Please don't start throwing "Hitler" mongering accusations at me. I am seriously wanting to discuss what this all means. I don't know if you "read" it in there, but there was DEFINITELY a certain amount of "funding" to "identify and train" forces to deploy to areas within our country to "enforce" continued workforce compliance at economy sensitive industries.

Of course, I need to do more research. For instance, I will need to find out just why the Clinton era order, similar in name, passed in 1998, was revoked in favor of THIS one. Perhaps they were very similar, and this is just a refinement. But, perhaps, they were very different in the scope of powers given to the Executive.

But, I am worried. First, because the totally ineffective Dept of Homeland Security is given such broad powers AND responsibilities, when it has shown itself to be totally ineffective up to now. And second, because of the disturbing number of references to the economy, domestic threats, location of catastrophe (read Middle East,) and other references to allocation of government funds (read taxes or program cuts) as well as the fact that MANY of the details of this "program" are now classified and must be kept secret from the Amercian people.

This is not a time for Conservatives to stand "blindly" behind their leader and their platform beliefs. Nor is it a time for Democrats to oppose everything Bush stands for (just because he's a fool, an idiot, and a cowboy.)

This is a time for Americans to remember their common Constitutional bond, and love for country. Bush talks about "reaching across the aisle" (it's just TALK, but it sounds good.) It's time for US to do the same. More than at any other time in our history, the phrase "United we stand, divided we FALL" has relevance to our everyday lives! And indeed our survival as a nation.

And BTW.... WTF is up with THIS?

Worst mistake made in American histore was changing the voting requirements; used to be that you had to be a land owner. I think it should have stayed that way.
This is a distant Feudal memory, if that. America was NOT founded on such class restrictions. If you don't want to "share the vote" with us apartment dwellers, some of whom have served their country with distinction, you're welcome to sail your little boat BACK to England! Many land owners in the 1800's would have been wiped OUT without the help of their slaves, serfs, and local townsfolk! Let me clue you in.... not ONE of you ever drove a spike to build a railroad! Not ONE of you could drive your cattle to the railyards by YOURSELF! Not ONE of you ever built a cargo ship to carry your wheat or whatever you grow on your land to a distant port where they bought your STUFF!!

I'm certainly NOT saying that ALL land should be government owned and apportioned out to everyone.... but you need to get OVER yourself! You're just NOT that important!

The Katrina debacle really came down to the local government sitting on their collective *****ES and not asking for federal help till it was too late. Not to mention doing nothing to speed up the evacuation, like using the busses pictured below before they were submerged. Once again. the Democrats drop the ball and use the blame Bush clause.

There was gross negligence and incompetence in the situation in New Orleans just prior, during and after Katrina. I was down there several months ago and it still looks like a war zone. The mayor is a racist who only want those who are "chocolate" in his city. The word "chocolate" is his word, not mine. This guy and the governor are incompetents who somehow convinced their constituency to re-elect them. It just goes to show you that intelligence is not a precursor to voting. I think they were elected because they were giving our money away to anyone who was breathing.

By the way, the president has no powers not given him by congress. I get a bit tired of so many people blaming everything on the president. He is not the only one who should be held accountable. I think congress is more to blame for the way things are rather than the president, no matter who is sitting in the oval office. And if you REALLY want to place blame, just look in the mirror. These people are elected to office. We have no one to blame but ourselves. If you want things to change, kick every one of them out of office. Give them one or two terms and fire them. These people will do or say anything to get re-elected and keep their power. The real power is in voting. These politicians are in office because WE gave them that power. If you don't like what you see, vote them out. Stop letting them BUY your vote.

P/T/D: I am not arguing your point about the unused buses in New Orleans. As a "registered" Democrat (whatever that means) I was APPALLED at this picture of the submerged buses!!

However, I hope you realize that the buses in the Galveston picture were brought in, over roads that were ABOVE water, from areas that were ABOVE water, to a devastated coastal region. New Orleans is mostly BELOW the water level, and was flooded within minutes if not hours.

Either way, with pictures of New Orleans being flooded, and people on rooftops being rescued, YOUR president took 3 days to get to his office in Washington and get a handle on things! Will that response time be good enough for YOU when it is nuclear fallout that we are facing?

No, actually G Hobo, the Galveston buses were put to use before the storm hit, unlike Katrina, where they were left sitting because the mayor and governor decided it wasn't a big deal. Then, in typical Democrat fashion, played the victim and blamed everyone else for their shortcomings.

The lack of planning on the local level will not let the blame be totally on the feds.

    Golfhobo,

I may be wrong ( and I'm sure I will be corrected if I am  ) but the buses in the Tx. picture were buses that were already there and the picture was of the buses leaving BEFORE the storm hit with people on board. The picture of the buses in NO were of the buses that were there and not used because the powers that be sat on their hands waiting for someone else to tell them what to do.

I normally stay out of political and religious threads but, isn't he OUR president, no matter whether you voted for him or not. This is another way of dividing our country.

I have disagreed with some of Hobo's postings but all-in-all he does make strong cases for himself and he does it in a good way. He and I are on different sides of the track as for as politics go but I do have a lot of respect for him.

I do find that there are MANY others here that fit your description tho.
