I have a Cobra 1500 watt that I picked up at a T/A. Paid about $20 for it after wiping out my points. It runs everything with no probs.

Is this on a company truck?

If so are you sure that you can install a large inverter? If you do not know then you need to wait to find out.

Assuming you can install a large inverter, which will need to be direct wired into the batteries, I suggest you get at least a 1500 watt, and no bigger than a 700 watt microwave. Xantrex and Tripp Lite make the best inverters on the market, but you will pay more for them. Vector makes a decent one.

I would also suggest getting a 400 watt inverter and using it just for you TV.

The reason we are saying at least a 1500 watt inverter is because a microwave as well as a small dorm type fridge takes a lot of power upon startup.

If it was not for that a 1000 watt would do just fine.

In addition, the reason I suggest a second inverter for your TV, which is a plug in type, is so you will not have as much of a headache trying to run cords across your sleeper to plug everything into one inverter.

Been there, done that, and in some trucks it is easier said than done.

I know people who have had little problems with them, I on the other hand have had 3 and none lasted more than 6 months before something went wrong with them.

I still have a 13 inch tv/vcr that is about 4 years old and works great that spent 2 1/2 years bouncing in a truck and a 13 inch tv/dvd player that is 2 years old that has about 18 month of truck use that still works. Both of which are 110 v.

I have a small inverter, 2 outlets, 350watt (600peak). I hear horror stories about the larger inverters causing wiring problems and shorting circuits. I've never seen these incidents first hand though, and don't plan to since i own my truck.

I can't see how the wattage output of the inverter would affect the possibility of wiring shortouts. Shorts would be caused by a bare wire touching metal when electrified.

I have two enormous car audio amplifiers in my trunk. 4 gauge cable from the battery pos to a 30 amp fuse 20 inches away, then more 4 gauge going to the trunk. Within one foot of the amps, the 4 gauge goes into a double 20 amp power distribution block with two 8 gauge wires going straight to the amps. They draw a lot of juice and as long they are properly wired with fuses or breakers, fires can be prevented.
