The I80 is like a town in itself- pretty cool. If I ever win the lotto I'd like to build an even bigger one![]()

I stop there most times I'm enroute to the west coast on Hwy 80.
Just came from there this morning too, as a matter of fact. I like the showers there. I reloaded in Salinas, CA., now going up to Syracuse, NY.
Man  I needed that shower too. Yesterday afternoon it was 92 degrees Farenheit in Nebraska. Seems kinda early (april 29th) for heat like that...but the locals were not making anything of it...so I guess it was expected. Sure made it tough passing the cattle yards! .....GAD-ZOOKS.
Anyway...the main building at Iowa 80 Truck Stop has three new rigs inside. There are several old antique trucks in there too. I took photos with my camera phone to send you...when I figure out how to download the images. This is my first camera phone...so I suppose I gotta read the manual.![]()

They say a picture says a thousand words...so I hope the manual is mostly pictures. I won't read any manual that tries to explain things with words. :P:?

Now Wot, don't go thinking all American truck stop are like that! I have to admit, I have gotten spoiled in my limited time in trucking.
I recently did a run to Alberta Canada. I couldn't believe what they referred to as a truck stop. You might be able to park 6 to 8 trucks in their mud hole of a parking lot!
There's plenty of those tiny places they call "Truck stops". Some of them are almost impossible to get a truck through when the place is empty, let alone have trucks in them.
The Pilot is Roanoke, VA comes to mind.

Sounds like a typical British truckstop. Potholes all over that,ll rip a sump clean off if you don,t see em and misjudge your line :wink:Originally Posted by Rookie McRookerson

Pilot truckstop parking lots were designed by commitee.
You can take the driver out of the truck but you cant take the truck out of the driver.
There's a Pilot in Roanoke, VA? You mean the TA at the 150 by chance?Originally Posted by Malaki86

There is a pilot right across the street, from the T/A,pretty small though.Originally Posted by silvan

That's the one. It's hard enough to drive through the pumps, let alone think about parking in it.Originally Posted by mike3fan
Another one is on I-78, exit 5 or 7 in New Jersey - just as horrible - maybe a little worse (if that's possible).

I found a place in Pennsylvania a few years ago. It's listed in the truck stop directory. I needed fuel, but could not get to truck to the fuel island. Had to drop the trailer on the side of the street and bobtail in. That place is listed as a "truck stop", but even a 48' trailer won't make the turn.
There's another one in New Mexico. Pilot owns it now, and it's gone downhill. It was one of the places I'd stop to eat even if I didn't need fuel. Parking for more than a thousand trucks. Of course, Pilot has made use of some of the parking lot for other things now. Restaurant is not the same either. Really gone downhill.
Destroy the cities...and they will rebuild them.Destroy the farms...and grass will grow in the streets of the cities.
Destroy the economy of the blue-collar worker...and grass will grow in the executive offices.
The bill has come due.
( R E T I R E D , and glad of it)
Unfortunately, when Pilot buys a truck stop they get rid of the restaurant and bring in a McDonald's or other fast food type of restaurant. It is unfortunate that they would ruin a good truck stop.
Even Mc****e would be better than most the abominations served up at a lot of British truckstops...Originally Posted by GMAN

Yeah, sure enough. It's funny how I never noticed the Pilot there, considering the hundreds or thousands of times I've been past that T&A. (Only stopped once though. Once was enough. I never met a T&A I didn't immediately despise.)Originally Posted by mike3fan
