A Cobra 29 is a radio you can start and stay with, if that is what you decide you want to do. If you just want a basic radio, the Cobra 19 is a decent radio for a little less money. Uniden also makes a good radio. A 78 is comparable in price to the Cobra 29 but has more bells and whistles. Uniden makes a radio comparable to he Cobra 19, but I don't recall the model. I would not spend over $100 starting out. Pilot had a sale on a stripped down Cobra 29. I believe it was around $79. It could have been less.
The 29 is a good radio if you can find one without the soundtracker feature.
IMHO Uniden is an even better radio for the same money. The 78 will do anything you need it to do and probably more. I ran a 78 in my truck for the last several years I drove. Couple one of those with a good noise canceling mic like an Astatic of Roadking and you will have one sweet sounding radio.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.
are you talking abuot this???

Yes, that is the radio.
Note, like the Cobra 29 there are several versions of the Uniden 78 radio. They have the plain version, one with lighted knobs, one with a backlit face, and with and without weather bands.

I ran a Uniden PC66XL, the predecessor to the PC68 and it was a damn good radio. The only modification I did was get a power mic. I bought a Cobra 29 but I put that in my pickup truck and kept the PC66 as my working radio. When I left trucking, I sold my PC66 to somebody who wanted an "authentic trucker used CB" to put in his pickup.Originally Posted by Mackman

You can take the driver out of the truck but you cant take the truck out of the driver.
Go check this site out. I got my Galaxy from this site, and it was a pretty good deal. www.gijoesradioelectronics.com
thanks for all the replies. the weather channel is good to have right?
I still have my black face Corba 29 that does not have ANY of the extra crap that they added after I bought mine like the light up face and other stuff. Mine is one of those numbered editions that they made in the mid 90's to annouce they were coming back out with the black faced model and it still works today as good as the day t came out of the box.
Yeah, it can really come in handy. Especially if you happen to be in the midwest during tornado season.Originally Posted by mdf1576

Yes, I would go with the Cobra 29. The weather is nice, yes, but remember to leave it off. My Cobra 29 has a weather band. If I leave the weather band on, it will sound like a Screamin Meanie, when there is an alert. :shock:Originally Posted by mdf1576
How in the world can you turn it off? Please, enlighten me! I get so tired of that thing going off, and it ALWAYS seems to happen when I'm just getting to sleep. When I check to see what the deal is, it's usually some minor, insignificant warning.
