Help with sirius

I just bought the sportster sirius radio for my husband
we know we need an adapter, but have been told to buy
different ones. should we buy the fm modulator or fm direct
adapter? Also does it make a difference if you have the SIR4
truck antenna as to which one to buy, he doesnt have time to
look ( IMAGINE THAT )... and Im getting confused..

Im not familure with the Sirius models, but Im pretty sure the unit would have a built in FM transmitter in it, so no need to buy one. However, you will get a little better sound direct wireing it to your reciever.

You shouldn't need an adapter with that unit as long as you have a radio that gets FM in the truck. Just read the instructions that came with the unit, and it will tell you how to program a channel (such as 89.5) into the reciever, ten you simply program your FM radio to that channel and you should get your sirius comming through. If you do not have install instructions do a google search for "sportster install instructions sirius" and something will come up for you.

Sound quality will be better if you get the line that connects the Sat Radio to your FM radio but you don't need all the add-ons to simply listen. Turn your Sat Radio on, press Menu, then scroll down to FM Transmitter and click the Mongo the Dog button, hit Mongo again once you see the list of FM presets and then you can change it to whatever preset you want using the up, down and side to side arrows. Once you have the one you want, hit Mongo again and that preset is set.

The sportster comes with a built in fm modulator. This will allow you to listen to your sat radio through an unused FM station.

Your other two options for playing would be a cassette adapter or direct connect.

The direct connect will require the existing radio to be pulled to get to the antenna plug at the back of the radio. This may not be an option or a practical one in a company owned vehicle.

The car mount antenna that came with the radio will work. Many drivers put the antenna on the dash or if the truck has a sun roof will route it up there, in either case leaving it inside the truck. The reason being is that the antenna wire is easily broken when trying to route it through a window or door opening. They also make mirror mounts to use with the mini magnetic antennas that come with sat radios. You can find these at some truck stop chains either in the truck stop electronics department or in a kiosk that sell sat radios/cell phones, etc.

BTW: As far as mounting the radio in the truck, the best thing I have found to use is the windshield mount bracket. CLICK HERE
