Default The better 4X4: Ford, Dodge, or Chevy?

Am doing some serious thinking about trading in my Honda Accord for a new 4X4 in either an extended cab or crew cab. Anyone have any comments on whether a Ford, Dodge, or Chevy is the better buy? I'm kinda leaning toward a Ford F-150 but will look at all makes and models before making up my mind. 8)

Go with a Ford or a Dodge for that size of truck the Chevys seem just to fall apart.

Have a Silverado and love it and the Vortec engine is great and I've owned F150 XLT and loved that truck also. You'll be in good shape with either.

I am pleased with my 2004 Chevy 2500 HD Crew Cab Duramax 4 x 4 , 5 speed Allison. I stay away from Dodges, they don't hold their value or hold up in my opinion. I do like Ford's though, well the Super duty's at least. I just overall like Chevy's. I like their interior layout and feel. There's some pics of my truck on a slide show on my myspace main page. www.myspace.com/tkthetrucker

I don't know about the current models. I've owned all three brands in the past. Use to be the GMC was your better choice in General Motors Trucks. Heavier duty components than the Chevy model.

My best Truck was a Dodge Power Wagon. Those trucks cost the most...but the old saying..."you get what you pay for."

Had great luck also with my F-100 and my F-250's.

I worked Construction, and worked them all hard. Can't really say I was ever disappointed with any of them.

I was in the market for a new crewcab truck and was going to go with the chevy, but the new 2/3 plastic front bumper is a turn off. So don't rule out the GMC.

My silverado has 50k miles on it so far and hasn't seen a shop a day in it's life. I got 18mpg on the highway at 75-80mph on my recent trip to kansas..not the best, but I'm still running factory brakes, and everything. By far this has been the best truck I've had....might be because I've left it stock lol

I may not have a 4X4 truck but I can let a little light into thissubject via this battle. My parents HAD a 98 Ford Windstar minivan and at 100K the motor blew up. My brother had a 99 Dodge minivan and at 110K the tranny dropped the top 2 gears in it. Me on the other hand I have a 2003 Chevy Venture with 135K on it thing does not use a drop of oil gets 28 mpg on the highway and that is off the odometer and fuel receipts figures and the only issue I have had with it was at 98K the front hubs went out but covered under the extended warrenty I had on it. I am going to be sad to see it go.

I'm sorta partial to fords. I've had my powerstroke for 5 years and 150,000 miles and it's still going strong. I finally lifted it a couple months back and now it's like a whole new truck.

The pic is current except for the fact I ripped off one of those steering stabilizers tonight...doh!

That is easy....Jeep. You never see full sized 4x4 trucks on Rubicon or at MOAB. Then again, I cant haul 1500 lbs of cow poop in my Jeep.

Thanks for the input guys. Our local Ford dealer has a 2005 King Ranch edition crew cab 4X4 with only 31,000 miles on it and I'm looking seriously at it. It has leather, heated seats and just about everything you can think of on it. Not to mention it has the same colors as the greatest professional football team in the world (meaning the green and gold of The Pack, of course)!

You will get many different stories. I Drive a Ford F100. It was my Dads and will never be sold if I have my way cause of that. But on a personal note, I HATE Fords. Dodge many will say will fall apart, some say Chevy will. But I seen Fords do the same. Ford does makes a good Duely. But so do the rest. It's how you care for any of them in the long run.

I had a GMC Pickup, I gave back to the dealer ship, then I had a Chevy Silverodo Pickup, if had not gotten totaled, I'll still have it.

So no matter what you read on here, it all up to you what you like.

Those are quite nice. Does it have a 6.0 Powerstroke or Triton V10 ? Actually I don't think I've ever seen one with a gas job. Most have a Powerstroke since the truck is expensive to begin with, might as well go all out. That's what I say, all or nothing. Of course my wallet reflects that.

I don't know much about the 6.0 liter but we had a 7.3 in a 99' at a place I used to work at . I was the only one that took care of it but only drove it when my big truck was down. The rest of the time it had multiple drivers beating the living crap out of it. It pulled a 25 gooseneck ALL the time. The trailer empty was 4500 lbs plus usually around 5,000- 8,000 lbs of equipment. That thing would pull the crap out of that trailer. We had other Ford's with the same set up just a couple years newer and wouldn't come close to pulling like that truck did. It had 150,000 on it when I left and last I knew it finally needed a transmission at 200,000

I've got over 171,000 miles on my truck and it runs like new-Just frequent oil changes and the Sea Foam treatment I give her twice a year.

had to replace the front right wheel bearing and that was EXPENSIVE
