    Default Idol Worship

Do you have any predictions...or a favorite?

I've been missing most of this year's Idol. I've seen parts and especially like that they added Mentoring. I saw some of Diana Ross. (one of my all time fav's)
Tonight Martina McBride is performing...I hope I can see that. I missed Jennifer Lopez, Tony Bennett, and Gwen Stefani. (and any others?)

They sure do find some great singers, and are an extremely successful show if they can pay Ryan Seacrest 12 million a year.
Carrie Underwood just won 3-categories at the 2007 CMT Music Awards!

Sorry Roadhog I haven't watched any of it at all this year.

Oh and I understand why you are smiling about Carrie Underwood.

    Diana Ross, and The Supremes

I dont watch American Idol, unless, they have it on the TV in the driver's room at our warehouse. I did see one episode one night, while I was waiting on the warehouse to get done loading my rear trailer. Dang grocery warehouses. :P Well, they had this man, that was about 60, I would guess. His wife just died, and he was signing this song for her. He did have a good, deep, smooth voice. Well, the lady judges were bawling. Going through a box of Kleenex. That one dude, the head honcho, got up, clapped his hands, and shook the old man's hand. Doug, my buddy that I run with, said that if what's his face gets up, and shakes your hand, that means you did good. I was like, ahh ok.

IMO this show has lost some of it's integrity with the "Sanjaya" fiasco. This boy does not have the talent to win and should not have even made it to the final twelve. Having the viewers vote for the winner merely turns this into a popularity contest. I hope next season brings a change in how contestants are judged. I no longer follow the show because of it.

Bulldog...I've been hearing that Howard Stern has been influencing his listeners to vote for Sanjaya...and also some website called "Vote for the Worst" doing the same as well.

Why these people find it sporting to try and destroy this show??? I just don't get it.
It has been fun and has given many regular "joes" a fantastic chance to show what they can do...and many of them you see improve throughout their competition. Even the ones who don't win are still offered great oppertunities. Clay Aiken for example. Kelly Clarkson is an amazing singer.

This year regardless of Sanjaya...and all the BS involved with why he is still there...I thought there were several real good singers...and maybe a couple who might still surprize. I haven't seen enough to remember the contestants I liked...but Jordin sticks out..and Phil.

I agree that they need to revamp the way this selection process is done.
I guess it is vogue/sport to ruin a good thing...or destroy something nice...now days. It's like if you have a beautiful shiney new car...someone keys it...because they don't like you having something nice.

This world seems to be swirling the drain.

I never watch American Idol; television just isn't my thing.

I noted how you entitled your thread, and thought that it must have something to do with religious beliefs, The First Commandment, or Pagan rituals.

In principle the show WAS a great vehicle for the common man or woman who had some semblence of talent to showcase themselves, but it is the common man and woman that is doing the voting and has no clue what talent is. It all comes down to who is cute/handsome, best dressed, best hair, etc. Maybe if the judges were allowed to make a decision in conjunction with the viewer's choice it would level the fairness somewhat.
    Rant over.

Well...I got to see the show tonight. Martina McBride was great.
Sanjaya was voted out....so my faith in America was restored.
All the people that I saw some time back who I felt had talent...are all still there. I also saw all the cute, or pretty faces, or hotties are all gone.
Lots of big name talent coming to the show next week. I think this is a great move on the shows part, over previous years. There is a couple hopefuls in my opinion for another American Idol star. I'd like to hear Jordin sing again. From what I hear, she is the most likely to win, and getting better all along. Not bad for 17 years old. Phil is still hanging in there. The other singer I like is Melinda. Glad to see she is still in the competition.

Guess everybody finally got it together and did the right thing. I heard that MAXIM Men's Magazine was going to name Sanjaya its "girl of the day"....

Just want to bump this old thread back one last time. I found it almost buried on page 4 already. Doesn't seem that long ago. Well, one of my hopefuls to win ...won the American Idol competition...and I was very happy for her.

I thought from early on she had a lot of talent, and what was amazing is how she kept progressing and seemingly getting better and better every time she performed. I think more so now than ever, that she may be the best talent yet to come out of this competition...and she is the youngest to ever win...at age 17.

I will look forward to her album, and I believe this young, beautiful, talented star will be a huge talent, once she matures.

This competition allows people just like Jordin tpo come out of no where, and become noticed. How many of them would never have been offered a chance otherwise. I'm a fan of music...period, but it is even more exciting to see regular people, many with no background or training to emerge like young Jordin Sparks.

Roadie and Jordie, sittin' in a tree.....

I just have a couple of comments.

    1) It seems the show is abandoning it's constitution by bringing on established artists to pump up ratings.

    2) WHY even HAVE judges, if the viewers are doing the voting??

    3) For those who think this is a NEW thing..... ever heard of the Lawrence Welk Show? Or, umm.... dang... what's his name with the "really good shoe? Where Elvis got his start? Oh yeah... Ed Sullivan!

How do you think the Beattles ever got out of Liverpool???

The only difference is in the refinement of the snake oil salesmen who market such shows.

I'm not against the format or the entertainment value. I'm against the MANIA!

I loved the 1st season, but withdrew from seasons after knowing what an addiction it can be.

I'd make Paula Abdul my gf ANY day of the week.

 Yer a better man than me....
but you're right someone needs to do 'er.
That must be one of her biggest ongoing problems.

She is fantastic looking for mid-forties,..
but she is so high maintenance, and F'in crazy.
Just listening to her whine, complain and cry...
    I'd be beating myself
against a brick wall until I was dead...
half-way through my first date with her.

Don't forget your ear plugs... :?

Every time this thread gets bumped, I forget what it's about.

My idea of idol worship would be a W900L in navy blue with cyan stripeworks, and some gorgeous hottie behind the wheel, saying "Catch me if you can, and I'll show you the waterbed I have in this thing."

    That's more like it.

Especially when I catch her.

(And she's, um, my wife all along. Yeah.)
