Default Don Imus, 2 week suspension too short or too long?

I know many drivers listen to the news and talk radio, so this has been the subject of many conversations. Do you think it was blown out of proportion? Two weeks suspension is about right? or Do you think he should be fired?

One thing to note on this subject is that you hear worse being said about women in Rap music. It troubles me that people like Al Sharpton pick and choose what is offensive to the black community or any community for that matter. Of course the problem was that a white guy uttered these words but it still seems like hypocrisy. I don't listen to Don imus and could really not give a monkeys' nuts what happens to him.

I think it was blown way out of proportion. I hear kids of all color and race saying "Nappy Hair" all the time. It's the new hip phrase. The problem that Big Al has with it is because a white person used a phrase that was started by a black person. Had you or I said the same thing on the street, might have gotten us shot at worst and nothing else. Big Al is just using this as a way to get attention because it was a big time name that used it. I'm still confused as to why he and his buddy Jesse Jackson didn't string up Michael Richards. They claimed it was because he was a hack and not worth their time, yet Imus is??

Imus doesn't have the luxury of having Robin Quivers sitting next to him like some other talk radio host.
You can take the driver out of the truck but you cant take the truck out of the driver.

The guy is a TALK SHOW HOST !!!!! I would think there are more pressing problems in the country than this.

How quickly people forget the past!!

    October 2003:
"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well," [Rush] Limbaugh said. "There is a little hope invested in [Donovan] McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

Limbaugh did not back down during his syndicated radio talk show Wednesday.

He reiterated that he does not think McNabb is a bad player, just that he isn't as good as some members of the media think he is.

"This is such a mountain out of a molehill," he said. "There's no racism here, there's no racist intent whatsoever."

"All this has become the tempest that it is because I must have been right about something," he said. "If I wasn't right there wouldn't be this cacophony of outrage that has sprung up in the sports writer community."
    http://www.slate.com/id/2089193/

Rush lost his post on ESPN NFL Countdown over the comment. It's history repeating itself!

Al Sharpton needs to open a can of shut the hell up all over himself.

This isn't news. This is reverse-racism.

You can't compare Imus to O&A and this has nothing to do with O&A so why bring them into this? Imus was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1989. In 2002, Talkers magazine ranked Imus as one of the greatest radio talk show hosts of all time. His show was simulcast on MSNBC from 1996 until it was canceled yesterday. I know you like to think Howard is the man but Imus was doing the radio thing when Howard, Rush, Hannity and O&A were in diapers.

Because Imus is as irrelevant as they are.

Imus was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1989.
So he might have been relevant in 1989. He isn't anymore.

In 2002, Talkers magazine ranked Imus as one of the greatest radio talk show hosts of all time.
    Talkers magazine is a joke.

His show was simulcast on MSNBC from 1996 until it was canceled yesterday.
Your point? Mancow was on Fox & Friends, too. Does that mean he is relevant as well (with his whopping 4 FM stations)?

I know you like to think Howard is the man but Imus was doing the radio thing when Howard, Rush, Hannity and O&A were in diapers.
I didn't say anything about Howard, but since you brought him up, Howard is irrelevant as well. They are freaking radio talk show hosts! Who gives a crap?

It doesn't matter who's relevant or not with this. He made a joke - ya, it was a stupid, off color joke, but that's all it was. How many people are actually mad about it? Very few that I've heard.

I for one could care less about what he said what made it so bad is the fact the the REV AL BLANKING SHARPTON by the way what church does he preach at anyway the one on how to et made at whites only regardless on how many blacks make the same comments. He stuck his nose into this and made it worse, yes Imus put his foot into his mouth but Rev Al needs to take a look at the inner cites and try to stop the decay of his people and the hate they show each other not the one joke every now and then from one radio jock. The Rutgers team was offended but they accepted his apology but what kept this going on was Rev Al Sharpton who gets his undies in a bunch everytime he thinks someone offends him regardless of what was said.

Same with Jesse Jackson. Who remembers the 'Hymie Town' comment he made years ago? I heard an interview about it - when the reporter asked him about that comment he quickly sidestepped the issue.

Imus is an ass however, it is a shame we have come this far into the 21st century and some folks have not grown up. The dude said something evil, so what, get over it and move on.

A quote from one of the Rutgers players "This will scar me for life!" Oh really! I guess she didn't have much of a life to begin with!
Why is it when I press one for ENGLISH I still can't understand the person on the other end???

That's an interesting point, too, Doc and brings up a pretty big point.

Sure, Imus was an butthead for his comments and they were indeed unwarranted. But is it just me or does anyone else think that Vivian Stringer and her players are milking this for as much sympathy as possible? And I mention Stringer because she cancelled an appearance at the University of Iowa (she was a women's coach her for a while) this weekend due to her mental anguish over Imus' comments.

Come on, give me a break. He made a nasty comment! He didn't put a knife in your heart or kill your family. It was a comment. If some idiot's comment is enough to scar you for life or cause you to completely withdraw from life, what does that say about the kind of person you are?

When this story broke, I felt sorry for Stringer and her players. Now, I am completely indifferent to the whole thing. Imus is a putz for his comments and his alleged 'victims' need to grow a backbone.

You compare Mancow's 45 seconds to Imus intire show on MSNBC. Big difference.

While he may be irreverent, that isn't what I said. I said he is irrelevant. Big difference.

Anyone who thinks a radio talk show host is relevant is a sad puppet. They are paid to provide entertainment, and garner advertising dollars. Imus may provide entertainment (to some people), but his advertising dollars are falling by the wayside, now that sponsors are dropping him.

MSNBC canned his simulcast yesterday and CBS just canned his radio show today........ What a horrible world we live in, a white man can't even make an attempt at a joke without being strung up while a black man can get really deep with the racial jokes.

Maybe some of these dummies will start learning to keep their dumb comments to themselves.. I disagree with firing this idiot Imus, he was one of the least offensive of the shocktards on the air nowadays..

Now the same emotional outcry needs to be leveled against Sharpton for his comments on the Duke fake rape case and Jesse "hymietown" Jackson for all of his race based comments.. fair is fair and when it eventually gets around to the REAL race pimps, this isn't going to be seen as "fair" by them.
