Default important big truck will have to go 68 per hr

all the big company's are at it again. They have a device to put into big trucks that would make big trucks go 68 miles per hr.
They want to make this law.

What a mess that would be!

We have till 3/28/07. Too put our input to the department of transportation.

I talking to those driver who also work for these big company's cuz one day you might want to work somewhere else. A better company that allows you to go faster and possible you may want to get your own big truck.
My opinion is big company's want no competition.
    Big company are greedy.
Please email the dept of transportation and let them know what a mess that could be.
Tell them about Ohio raising the toll speed limit and how fatality accidents have gone 60 % down since they up the speed limit from 55miles per hr to 65 miles per hr.

Split speed limits do not work and are very dangerous
And with dust in my throat I crave - Only knowledge will I save - To the game you stay a slave, rover, wander, nomad, vagabond, call me what you will...

Your post is hard to read. The sentences are incomplete and uncomprehensible. I find it hard to figure out what you're saying.

Funny, I understand everything he says. This is a truckers forum, not English 101.
When I get old, I move north and drive slow in the fast lane.

my truck is governed at 68 and i dont have any problems with it. more than enough to get me in trouble in most states. I dont really see a point of 80,000lbs going much faster than that.
work harder, millions on welfare are counting on you !

Yes and see I all your truck in line that looks like a train and your all riding bumper to bumper real close to each other 8 X 80,000 = 640000 that's a hell of alot scarier then 80.000. I really would like to stay away from that. I like my own space

Um, every heard of maintain a safe following distance bud? It don't matter what speed you're going at, it is YOUR responsibility to not tailgate and keep a safe distance. And the fact of the matter is, no matter what speed trucks are governed at, those who don't care about their safety or others are still going to tailgate....Governing speeds won't change that.

We just did both... installed OBRD and lowered the speed to 68.. you'd think the world was coming to an end...

Heard of, yeah, and all those guys tailgating each other probably have too! Doesn't stop them though. That's why I seldom run with another truck driver when we are going the same place. I just hate to have them tailgate me!

The only bad thing I can see about governed trucks is when you go to pass and the other vehicle speeds up beside you and traffic piles up, it just makes it difficult for everyone.
2 trucks trying to pass each other while being governed to 65 mph is like nascar restrictor plate racing.

Most people who dont have a problem with it are company drivers. Im an O/O leased to one of these "big" companies and i have a problem with it. I dont want anyone to tell me how fast to go or not to go(within the speed limits of course) and i dont need a OBDR to monitor my every move!!!! its all about trying to make the playing field even for these big companies....................... will the OBDR and speed governed at 68mph be for ALL trucks????

I think the cutoff date is 1990 and it's only for electronically governed engines.
You can take the driver out of the truck but you cant take the truck out of the driver.

yes big companies are greedy, you must watch them always.
i wish i could put one of the devices on my sawdust truck that would make it go 68 mph!
recently i was going by fort lewis and was watching an older swift in my mirror. he was constantly changing lanes and tailgating everybody in the area.
when he got behind me i could not see him. i asked him how many feet off my tailgate he was. he was too close to receive his cb. he jumped on the 512 exit and said he was drafting. another driver keyed up swearing because that lane change almost wrecked him. lately i hear local divers in this area keying up and complaing about all the drafting in that area

Limiting speed is greedy? In what way? I'd say unnecessary speeding is greedy and may end up costing the company it's existence.

The fact that the drivers get cited (even warning effect it) the SafetyStat numbers and insurance costs go up. When the costs and profit margins get thinner, operating out of the margins just costs more money that controlling everything.

We have drivers leaving the company right now because the fleet dropped the speed from 72mph to 68mph. To quit a decent company over 4 mph is just nuts in my opinion.

Especially when the local jobs here are few and far between if you want to not have to drive junk for a lot less than we pay...

As far as I'm concerned.. good riddance... No one likes to lose decent employees, but there comes a time where survival of the company means that they have to operate smarter and just better. When there is a grand total of maybe 40 miles where the speed limit is 70 that is covered by our routes, there is no NEED or justification or rational to run over 68. Just because a driver is bored, it doesn't give them the right to liven their day up driving like a nut with the truck. Voting with the feet was more like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Going to a company that runs older, run down junk at 2 mph faster and losing the set hours and hourly pay is again.. NUTS!

I give them a couple of months before they are back knocking on the doors a couple of the drivers have already left and come back before.
