Alright, just a question for now, but how bad is a speeding ticket for 9 miles over in a CMV? Just wondering how much damage just it could do to hireability.

Shouldn't be any serious problem, as long as it is an isolated situation; let the tickets start racking up, or combine it with other incidents, and it could become problematic/Originally Posted by madii'swife

Racking them up WILL be a problem, yes. But, the IMPORTANT thing to remember is that a ticket for 15 over is considered a MAJOR violation, and it takes ONLY 2 of them to get a 6 month suspension of your CDL!
And there are OTHER violations that will qualify. Tell "someone" to at least try NOT to get caught doing 15 over..... and learn the OTHER violations that the fmcsa considers "major," so as to avoid ANY of them!
Not only can NONE of us afford a 6 month suspension, and the probable loss of job that would come with it, but THAT - I would think - would become a "hireability" issue!
Now.... Hobo.... read that to YOURSELF TEN times before going to bed tonight!![]()
Thank GOD I don't have a "triple digit truck!"![]()

"someone" wasn't watching close enough going down a 5% grade in PA...tagged for 74 in a 65...only happened cuz of the grade, otherwise he's governed at 68..
Same "someone" better be more careful!
I thought that 15mph. wasn't good, but I was unaware of the fact that it was a "job killer". Now, I knew that OVER 15 was a serious problem.....Originally Posted by golfhobo

Thanks.
I think they start knocking points on your record at 15 over. He shouldnt be in too deep,I wouldnt think. Of course,I may totally off here. :? :P
Didn't actually SAY it was a jobkiller, although hard to hold a job with a suspended license. However.... CORRECTION!!!! It is a 60 day - or TWO month suspension (not 6) for any TWO convictions of:Originally Posted by Useless

Or a combination of one of those, and another from the list...(or any two within 3 years).... reckless driving, erratic lane changes, following too closely, not having your CDL ON YOUR PERSON, or not having the proper "classifications" for the equipment you are driving.

Yep....sounds like Pennsylvania!
Dang Bears like to hide at the bottoms of steep grades for Trucks.
Lots of guy's let the speed spill out at the bottom, rather than heat up their brakes....long as its like 75-80mph...and Penn Hwy. 80 speed limit is 65.
Landstar will hire you with one 15mph+ combined with two other moving violations within the past three years...
I currently hold one of those am sad to say that i did in my personal car 2 years ago, no points were added at all and no insurance rate hikes, never really aplied anywhere so dont know about the hireng process but am sure that it might be a problem, i have to wait till September to drop it because thats when my 3 years will be up..
BTW, when i went to school i had one 9mph over under my belt and it never caused any problems, everything 9 and below its concidered a joke but still counts as a moving violation.
Some companies look at things differently, i have a frind of mine who lost his licence due to DUI 3 or 4 years ago and he's about to start with Fedex.
I was popped for 15 over (50 in a 35) I got a 2 day no pay vacation and a letter in my file plus my car insurance went up $800. I learned to watch the hill coming out of that yard.
Did it cause you any problems finding a job, how long was it registered and what about your trucking insurance?Originally Posted by ceb
I know it sounds crazy but I still work for the same company they just suspended me for 2 days and put a letter in my fileOriginally Posted by Dejanh
Yeah, i thought so, company will not fire you because of it but if you quit lets say and try to apply there again it might be a problem for at least 3 years, am in the same boat but no suspensions or any kind or leters though.Originally Posted by ceb

A friend of mine wants me to go run one of his trucks ( he said he likes fast drivers ) but I think I need my lic. too much
There are a number of companies that like fast drivers. Ever notice how they are always looking for drivers? Ever wonder why?Originally Posted by ceb
Speeding is especally bad in construction zones. I know a couple of drivers that were stopped at 8 over in one of the zones. Double the penalty, double the speed. Cited for 16 over. Second major within 3 years, so they lost their jobs.... Ooooopppssss............
Destroy the cities...and they will rebuild them.Destroy the farms...and grass will grow in the streets of the cities.
Destroy the economy of the blue-collar worker...and grass will grow in the executive offices.

Are you saying that they were going 8 mph over the speed limit and the cop doubled it on his own???Originally Posted by Windwalker
I know in mass fines double in construction zones but I think it just cost twice as much not twice the violationOriginally Posted by ssoutlaw
What I meant was, 8 mph over in a C zone does not equal a 16 mph over the limit ticket. They will double the fine, but not the speed!Originally Posted by ceb
They don't double your speed, its the fine that's doubled, and depending on what state your license is in maybe the points for the ticket. For 8 mph I believe the higher fine is all you have to worry about.Originally Posted by Windwalker
