    Default Checklists?

Switching from aviation to trucking, I see a lot of similarities between flying a plane and driving a big rig. I know in aviation we use multiple checklists for everything that happens during a flight. Do any drivers do the same thing? I'm sure there are some pilot/truck drivers on here that know what I'm talking about.

Yes, I do understand, and unfortunately, no, most drivers do not operate off of a checklist. While some companies offer a checklist for PTI, very few drivers actually use them as a tool.

From my experience, there should be some similarities between driving a truck and flying an airplane; if a CDL was as difficult to obtain as a Commercial Pilot's License, the face of the entire industry would be all together different from what it is today.

Can you imagine climbing into a Cessna 152 as a student pilot, only to discover that your instructor was a VFR rated private pilot with with fewer than 100 hours under his belt??

Can you imagine a Southwest Airline First Officer responding to ATC by saying "Shut Up, Stupid"??

Better yet, can you envision an American Airlines Captain "cooling off the tires" of his 757 before push back??

How about a First Officer for United taking right seat sporting a chewing tobacco stained sleeveless undershirt, with his crack hanging out from his blue jeans??.... pitching out his trash bag from Wendy's right before push back??

Taxi departure outbound Golf 12-R. "Continental 967, I'm outta' here....get the fu@&k outta my way"!!!

I do wish things were different!!

From observation, most truckers only get out of their truck to pee on it.

THAT is why I "always" piss on the tires of the truck NEXT to me!!!

Seriously.... and I'm too lazy to get up and check..... but I THINK there is such a "checklist" in the first few pages of your Trucker's Atlas.

Personally.... I've been thinking of creating some Index Cards for just this reason! Pre-trip, post trip, trailer drop, loading and checking my load! I'm loaded and ready to leave the shipper..... have I done my Qualcom work?? My logbook? Wrote down my mileage? Got my cigarettes within reach?? Got everything out of the sleeper that I might need so I don't have to wake my partner?

I'm with Useless here..... the industry would be MUCH safer and saner, if people would realize that we ALL forget things at times. And a truck can be JUST as deadly as an airplane if not checked properly before operation!
Remember... friends are few and far between.

    TRUCKIN' AIN'T FOR WUSSES!!!
