Default Will an Ancient DL Suspension Cause Hiring Problems?

    First the story.

I thought my wife paid the car insurance. My wife thought I did. So I managed to drive a few days without insurance, totally unintentionally. However, I got into an accident while I had no insurance. That lead to a 60 day license suspension (and quite a bit of expense).

That was about 9 or 10 years ago. Would that have any impact on a company's decision about hiring me? I have been including it on my applications. Do they check that far back? Should I just quit putting it down? I don't want to be dishonest, but I also don't think something that minor that far back, with a perfectly logical explanation, should hold me back from driving for a company.

As far as putting it on your application the answer is, depends on what is being asked for.

I have seen applications ask about lisc suspensions anywhere from 3 years to lifetime. So as always with these apps, carefully read what they are asking for and give them only what they are asking for.

While any type of lisc suspension is going to hurt you overall, one that is 9-10 years old is not going to be a big killer.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

Do your homework, Pull your DMV report and get a back ground check done. Thats what the trucking company is going to do so find out exactly what is on those reports because thats what they are going to see when you apply with them. If nothing can be found I would not say anything about it.

But if you do that and you get in an accident and it goes to court, no doubt it will come up then and the company you work for will let you hang, prolly going to hang alone anyways but just so you know.

Its been my experience that most job apps ask if your driving privileges have ever been revoked. I believe you must tell them, but I don't think 10 years ago will even phase them. Just my 2 cents.

I know where to get the MVR done, but where would I get a background check?
