Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, sentenced to death for his role in 148 killings in 1982, will have his sentence carried out by Sunday, NBC News reported Thursday. According to a U.S. military officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, Saddam will be hanged before the start of the Eid religious holiday, which begins this Sunday.

The hanging could take place as early as Friday, NBC’s Richard Engel reported.

That's odd, the AP is saying Saturday at the earliest but more than likely this whole thing won't go down until after 30 days are up. The US is supposed to hand him over to the Iraqi's and then THEY will carry out the execution. US will not hand him over because the Iraqi govt is bickering with one another again.

I do not consider myself to be an advocate for the death penalty, nor am I a staunch opponent of it. I do believe that there comes a time when a heinous criminal gives up any right he has to occupy space on the Earth, or breathe the air around him. Surely, Saddam fits that bill.

When I look back on the many thousands of people who died under his reign, and particularly the children who suffered imprisonment and death under Saddam, his sentence of hanging from a rope seems like something of a lame cop-out.

True justice would be the slow, painful death that he brought to so many others. Personally, I see that perception as a weakness on my part, but none the less, it is there. I'm not a deeply vindictive person, but there is a vindictive part of me that shows itself at times.

Sadly, it is hard for me to see any real victory here. One oppressive tyrant is about to meet his fate, but his death will in no way put an end to the tyranny and oppression that is so pervasive in that troubled land. In the end, one group of people will still remain hell bent on hating and oppressing another group of people.

The last words of the song "We don't Get Fooled Again", which was recorded by "The Who" ring just as true today as they did back in 1971.

Violence from the Insergence is expected to spike. That is a given. We need to deploy more Troops quickly and quit screwing around. I wish that Bush and his Advisors would just go hunting with Cheney.

This was not some unexpected event. What is about to happen is no longer unexpected either. We just had two local families here loose a couple young Marines to roadside bombs. That is and has been on the increase. It WORKS for them...and dammut...this is BS.

As far as Soddom...he will only be truely missed by a few Sunni's. His cousin Chemical Ali is next to swing...hopefully soon.

Capitol Hill should be nervous. The American Public is watching very closely. :evil:

Not really sure what all the talk is about Saddam being hung by this weekend.

For decades, Saddam has claimed that he was hung.

According to his all of wives, he wasn't!! :P :P
