Default Now a saltbox out my window

My neighbor (General contractor, metal fab, etc) has gone into a new line of work.
Hooked up with someone local buying these saltboxes and converting them into hunting cabins. Seen these before, but now next door.

When done will have windows, door, bunks, kitchenette, bathroom, etc.
Will keep you updated if interested on progress. Hope he at least gets it sandblasted and painted soon. Yukkk.

These are handy as storage...and very secure. Nice laminated hardwood floors. When I lived out in California, I had a neighbor who sold these for $1500- $2000. I think they were 40-some footers. Some guy's installed a door and windows like you mentioned, and one guy made a nice little workshop out of his. We even found drug addicts using some in the back of the lot as a squaters den. Made it easy on the Cops though...they couldn't bail out the back and make a break for it. hehehe.

What does he pay for them, and what does he sell them for? That isn't a bad idea.

Those are Basically what we lived in Iraq-Sounds strange and wierd but they put in a window and A/C and had a shower in between the Containers. Very nice but everything was wonderful after being in HOT Tents.

I'm not sure what the guy pays for the boxes as salvage?
The first one he had done by someone else was an absolute mess from what I heard, and when my neighbor went to clean it up, he ended up way over budget, and will loose on that one.
Will check on the cost, and write up.
Been brought up he might want a web page, so might be doing that for them.....?

The windows and doors will be all steel, no wood. Bars on the windows I think, but for around here, not sure if they need it. We have no OPEN range land, every ranch is fenced and gated, and god forbid someone getting caught tresspasing on Texas land.......

And Roadhog, not sure if this would work as an Ice Shanty??
Be neat though, with pontons maybe as a safety net.....

I would think too heavy for an ice shanty, with insulation, as well as an interior.

Never work as a Ice shack up here-too heavy even if you put runners underneath.

Hmmmm...how about if you put it on pontoons.

Who cares if it breaks thru and freezes in place.

Maybe even build a motor mount (5 horse outboard?) and motor to shore in the spring.

On second thought...maybe living down south in the heat causes hallucinations...http://oldstersview.wordpress.com/fi..._houseboat.jpg

Kinda new to this. Why is this called a "saltbox?" Just looks like a standard (medium sized) container to me.

And why is it "salvage?" Doesn't look damaged. Just over inventory? Or what?

Dang, I hate sounding like a "newbie!"

I would amagine it,s called a saltbox because it spends most of the time on a ship?

Not sure how or why there sold and what reasons? On looking at it, it has some serious dents, holes in it. And those things can't leak at all while on a boat, so it must be cheaper to sell them than fix them after they get so old?
    Just a guess?

Thanks, Texas! That all makes sense. And it certainly wouldn't be cheap to FIX them! Just had never heard the term "saltbox" before.

Your neighbor has a nice yard! And at least he lined it up nicely. It would dive ME crazy if he had positioned it at an angle! Just kinda anal in that respect.

Hope for YOUR sake, he only "does" one at a time!

Did I mention that green grass is MY yard....
Yes, only one at a time, but once he gets started, he is fast.

Setback laws only apply to new construction here, and no zoning....
Has it's drawbacks, but I am not to bad where I live, dead end street.
Luckily where good friends. He is a hard worker, and very nice people.
Better be nice, she just took over my business accounting.... She has a degree in accounting. 8)

Wow! NO, you didn't mention that. Man, THAT is close! Kinda like "excuse me, can I borrow your toothbrush while I feed the kids their breakfast?"

    BTW, is that fescue?

St. Augustine, well fertilized, but cut low this year due to drought and water restrictions. Looked better in August, grows like heck at 100 degrees out and a little water. If it does not freeze over 3 days, it usually stays green, but like summer, don't expect 80 degree temps and balmy,

Well.... I don't think I could PUTT on it. But, I could hit a nice wedge out of it, OVER the saltbox, and onto your neighbor's porch!

You've got my curiosity up. I hope you'll post a picture of the "finished product." Heck, we might have the beginnings of a "reality show" here!

Although, I can't think of a good name for it!

Tell him to look at Yahoo's SiteBuilder... it is sooo easy to use. You have to use Yahoo hosting with it, which is about $11 or $12 a month.. but the program is dynamite... makes the higher hosting cost a drop in the bucket.
